BAWHAHAHHAHHAHAHA. Of course they are. Surprised most here aren’t camping out yet lol

The mini is so small and so lightweight, I could easily see using one that folds out into a small tablet.

From most accounts, the Microsoft folding phone was really well designed and built. It only suffered due to software and power.

I imagine an A15 chip and a modified iOS, could do wonders for something similar to this.

I initially wasn’t fond of ‘folding phones’, but there’s nothing wrong with offering a device if it’s well executed, even if it might be for a small segment of people, But a new product has to start somewhere. There’s way too many negative projections on the Internet about ‘we don’t need this’...‘nobody asked for this’, well, those same people don’t speak for everybody else either. The Reality is, we have the opportunity to see new technology and its capabilities. Some consumers won’t be able to afford this device and maybe they’re not the target demographic for it, but nonetheless, if this does actually happen, I totally look forward to seeing the potential from Apple.

Apple should have create and sell a developer glasses and screens with blue light protection. As a developer, I am all day long infront of multiple screens and my eyes suffers. I would pay extra money for that.

It'll probably look nothing like the mock-up used in the article. Most likely they're working on something similar to Microsoft's Surface Duo (dual-panel rather than "foldable" screen) with a very thin bezel in between the two panels. I just don't see how foldable screens can be durable enough for daily use with the technology that's available right now and if it's not durable, Apple can't sell enough units to justify the cost.

I hope they are and not a Duo style one but rather one that folds out to a big display. I mean I even took the pain of switching from all Apple ecosystem to the Galaxy Fold 2 just because of how good a device it becomes when you can fold it out to a tablet size.

Would love to go back to iOS though because I am not really liking Android as a mobile OS.

Whenever I use my iPad, I first close my eyes for a moment and pretend that I’ve just taken it out of my pocket and unfolded it a couple of times. So, in my experience a folding phone is going to be very useful and popular. It was quite an expensive imaginary iPhad though so I didn’t actually get a new one. I waited and bought it second hand. Still works very well.

So a phone with an even more limited lifespan due to folding and its more expensive? Somewhere Tim Cook and the board is salivating.

It is an interesting option, but I can guarantee that Timmy Cook will say that they invented it and they were the first.

Of lord, I can only imagine the price.

When did rumors about the foldable iPhone jump to having a projected release?

That question, hand in hand with the fact that this comes from Prosser…huuummmmmmmmm

Having hard time thinking the ROI is worth it. I guess As usual, Apple knows what I need and will buy before I ever do.

Could see this becoming a feature of the iPad rather than the iPhone. Fold to get an upright screen plus keyboard laid flat, as one simple example.

If anyone is able to successfully come up with a solution to a problem we don't think we have, it's Apple. I don't think they are likely to do anything "just because of the novelty of it." I am definitely taking a curious wait and see stance about this.

I can hardly text one hand on the 11 pro max. I'm having to resort to switching to a smaller physical size iphone 12. I'm not sure I have better use for a folding phone.

Regardless, given Apple's secrecy policy, whichever "Chinese supplier" leaked this info will not be their supplier anymore when they find out :)

I find the idea of a double screened, hinged design way more appealing than those plastic covered foldable screens currently on the market.
Really? Have you used either? The surface duo style is probably going to quickly become a time-stamped relic of technological limitation, while the full screen design will continue to improve and become more accessible to the mass market.

Keep in mind that Apple prototypes and tests a crazy number of things that never see the light of day - just becuse they’re testing it doesn’t mean they’re going to sell them any time soon.

(If I could get a display that just magically extends out the side, SciFi-style, I’d totally go for that when it actually works - these folding displays are nowhere near ready for prime time yet.)
