    Sorry if this has been discussed before but why is this accessory necessary?

    The Apple HDMI to HDMI cable lets you connect an Apple TV, Mac mini, or other HDMI device to an HDTV or A/V receiver. Both high-definition digital video and multi-channel digital audio are delivered over this single cable for stunning picture and sound.

    * Compatible with all HDMI devices
    * 1.8 meter length

    Apple HDMI to HDMI Cable (1.8 m)

    * None
    * Apple HDMI to HDMI Cable (1.8 m) [Add $19.00]

    The only thing I can think of is it is needed to pass HDMI audio, but then doesn't that mean the built-in HDMI on the Mini is not within specs?

    It's an HDMI cable sold/provided by Apple. Nothing strange here.

    Oh wait. I think I see what is going on now.

    This is just Apple's branding on an HDMI cable. It first suggested to me that there was something special when I saw words "Apple HDMI" put together. :D
