Not actually sure if this is the right place to ask this. If there is a better place, let me know.

This is an Apple Health question. In Apple Health you can set your sources for step data and put them in order of priority in the event of conflict. The default is that the Apple Watch is first, then you iPhone and then 3rd party apps. However, you can change this.

I just got a Cubii under desk elliptical which will report elliptical rotations as step data which I have chosen to do. Apple Health under the Cubii input listing does show the Cubii steps being reported to it. However on the main page showing total steps for the day it is not counting the Cubii steps. I think this is because Apple Health insists on showing my Apple Watch as the top priority. The problem is that the Apple Watch doesn't register steps from Cubii.

I have gone in many times and changed the priority so that Cubii Steps (where they exist) take priority. When I do that -- for a few minutes -- Apple Health on the front summary shows the steps both from the Apple Watch (ie my non-Cubii Steps) and my Cubii steps. Great.

But, in a few minutes as soon as the Apple Watch updates to Apple Health again, the Cubii steps are removed from the summary and when I go and look Apple Watch is one again the top priority item above Cubii.

I can't seem to find a way to make Cubii the priority and for the setting to "stick." That is, I can make Cubii the priority (and have read the apple support page on how to set priority) and it seems to be done but a few minutes later it is undone.

Does anyone know a way to make the priority listing stick and not change?

This sounds like an Apple bug to me. But I don't have a Cubii or other step input device to try it out. Have you used the bug reporter or Apple feedback to report it?

It looks like you may be able to un-check the Apple watch as a step source. Have you tried that just to experiment?

So this ended up being interested. Basically I was having this problem where the phone would just not "hold" my priority settings. Later, after I wrote my initial message, my phone abruptly restarted (I was listening to something on the phone at the time but wasn't handling it). When it restarted, it went to the Hello screen and I had to restore from my backup which was done about 5 am yesterday morning. I did that. I also had to repair my Apple Watch and restore its backup. So I lost my activity data for yesterday.

But there was one silver lining. After I set up everything again, I went in and set the steps priority putting Cubii first. It now works flawlessly and holds the setting. Go figure....
