I believe Mr. Cook is making a grave mistake publicizing this. Yes, terrorism is bad to mankind and every human should assist to halt the perpetrators.

But don't forget two things
1. Terrorists don't have target boundaries. They haven't targeted a company before, but that doesn't mean they won't because now one of the World's biggest companies is working against them.

2. Apple is a citizen not just to US but worldwide. It's absolutely reasonable to assist the UK apprehending terrorists. But be humble about it and keep it underwrap. This is for the safety of hundreds of thousands of their employees.

Why does Theresa May look like a reanimated corpse in that photo? Oh wait...

One question that needs to be answered by those that propose breaking encryption to enable monitoring of messages is, what will they do next when that doesn't keep us safe? We're tinkering now at the edges of what separate our free democratic nations from autocratic ones, so what next, how far do they intend on going.

Great point. There are better ways to deal with these scumbags but they involve doing things that many would find not nice. But I do agree with you - its a very slippery slope once they start going in that direction.

I believe breaking encryption makes us all less safe, not more safe. It's not a question of either being safer OR having good, strong encryption - the two go together.

Get back to me when you have figured out a perfect way to select only the bad people to whom mathematics and the physical laws of the universe won't apply.

THIS.

The current UK Government with their ideas and laws to 'stop terrorists' via the internet (generalisation, of course) makes no sense - they will always find a way. It's a bit like Trump's wall idea...has he never heard of tunnels?!

Ridiculous.
This just in:

"Trump in new speech states that 'The Wall' just got 10 ft lower"

Erm, no, for instance one of the terrorists has their hate videos still up on You Tube for anyone to view... get your tin foil hat off and realise these tech giants have to face their responsibilities in these acts and hatred. The government is bang on with forcing them to grow up and take down these hate speeches and videos.

Taking away freedom from the majority (who are almost all good people) to thwart idiots makes no sense - read my post again; they will ALWAYS find a way, no matter what. Ever read Nineteen Eighty-Four perchance? If you have, you obviously didn't understand it.

How exactly does asking You Tube to take down the hate videos of hate preachers affect the freedom of the majority then? Is that what you are claiming?

People keep banging on about losing freedoms and rights etc, when all the government wants these tech companies to do is remove hate crime, it's no different to them not being allowed to let users post photos or videos of children being sexually abbused, how are videos of ISIS murdering people any different?

I think you've blown it way way way way out of proportion.
