Tidal is now streaming MQA titles to it's HiFI customers. You have to use the desktop application for now. Go to "What's New", and under Albums select "Masters".

I just picked the first album listed, Lemonade (Beyoncé). It was like having a live concert in my own living room. Currently they only have about 30000 tracks from Warner Music, which is a small number but it means Hi-Res streaming (>44.1 kHz /16 bit, the Tidal HIFI streaming rate) is now becoming available without having to purchase specialized hardware.

According to: http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2017/01/mqa-tidal-where-are-we-now/

Tidal are[sic] streaming 24bit/96kHz (and above)

From Billboard.com:

"Pandora, Rhapsody/Napster and HD Tracks, all in concert with the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG), today announced their support for studio-quality hi-res audio for music streaming."

This also means that MQA can be delivered via software, which means it could come to the iPhone. Tidal says they are working on it. [From the FAQ on their website].

So where is Apple? Of course they will have to have their own proprietary codec which takes time. But they have had years to prepare. I wish they weren't always trying to catch up in the streaming music business. It would be nice if they led the pack for once. Maybe they are one of the 4-5 services to offer high-res by the end of the year?

There are ~15000 albums available for streaming in Hi-Res from the 3 major music companies. [From the link above].

It's sort of like when Rhapsody, the first on-demand, unlimited streaming service started. First they had just thousands of tracks, then millions, then 10's of millions. It was just fun to log in and see how the numbers had moved upward, sort of like the old incrementing McDonalds "X billions sold" signs.

I tried streaming to my Yamaha/GoldenEar main speakers via AirPlay but the results were disappointing. I had to crank the Yamaha up to -15 from it's regular -27 and the volume was still low. Didn't have the punch or resolution, which I assume is due to AirPlay limitations.

Also tried streaming via the Oppo MediaControl Tidal App to my Oppo, but Masters doesn't show. I'd love to hear MQA on my main speakers, but I guess I have to wait.
