Apple today uploaded several new videos to its YouTube channel, each one designed to show off the Apple Pay Cash feature available on iOS devices.

Each 15 second video demonstrates the process of requesting and spending money using Apple Pay Cash in the Messages app, and then using the Apple Pay Cash card in Wallet to make purchases.

This isn't the first time that Apple has highlighted Apple Pay Cash, which was first introduced in iOS 11.2. The feature lets iPhone and iPad users send peer-to-peer Apple Pay payments to one another using the Messages app.

Money received via Apple Pay Cash can be used for Apple Pay payments or deposited in a bank account, similar to other mobile peer-to-peer payment services like Venmo.

Apple Pay Cash is limited to the United States at this time, but the feature has been popping up for users in countries like Canada and Australia, suggesting Apple is working on expanding it.

Make it QR-scannable. QR is paper-compatible, instead of fancy machines. That is, make things simple first and make people want to use it.

So how does it work if you don't have enough in Apple Cash and you go to pay? Like if the product is $12.00 and you have $10.00 in Apply Pay. Will it pay the $10 and then the terminal ask for another payment type for the remaining $2.00?

I would imagine so. Like using a gift card as a partial payment.

They forgot the part where you have to constantly try to get FaceID to work, and once you do, you have wave your iPhone all over the device to see if it works, then the cashier saying "I don't know if we take Apple Pay", or "it works when it wants to"

I wonder how these ads are made. Are they entirely animated? Do they use a fake version of Messenger? Are there bank accounts Apple has loaded just to shoot many takes of somebody sending money for fake doughnuts?

I'm really hoping it's the latter.

Sandbox iCloud accounts that don’t actually transfer any money.

makes no sense why this isn't in Canada yet

I agree but I’m afraid it has more to do with the agreement Apple has with banks rather than Apple.

They’re trying so hard to push email money transfers.. in 2018 we saw them get rid of passwords in favour of automatically transferring funds (at least for TD). They make a crap load of money off of it ($0.50-$1.50 per transfer)

If it’s a black Verifone device then contactless payments are supported, but the merchant has to turn it on. Any other device usually has the 4 indicator lights at the top of the device.

Oh hey let me send you Apple Pay Cash. Sorry I have an Android phone. o_O

If you don't do this at a multi-platform level you're already failing. iMessage for Android, Apple Pay Cash for Android then I'm listening.

FaceID is flawless. Go to Apple for troubleshooting or set it up again if you have to "constantly try" to get it to work. Makes no sense.

Also, not sure where you are shopping, but enormous chains like CVS, Walgreens, Whole Foods, etc take it and it's easier than a credit card, by far. No "waving" required. Works instantly.

Again, I cannot fathom why they don't throw some Apple Watch versions of those videos in there. It's by far one of the most convenient features of Apple Watch, and somehow they neglect to highlight it. It's literally removing one step that using a regular card / iPhone vs Apple Watch: Pulling out your wallet/iPhone.

The watch is already on your wrist, ready to go at any moment.

Provided it doesn’t affect security then I completely agree. It needs to be as universal as possible to make it really appealing.

ApplePay Cash is showing for me in Canada:

However, the setup displays US information such as a ZIP code US financial regulations.

My regional settings are set to Canada. I'm not running a beta. Either this is a mistake or a bug or ApplePay Cash is coming to Canada shortly.

They really should. I've just started using Apple Pay via my watch and it's so convenient. Ridiculously convenient. It is now my favourite function on the Apple watch by a long way! If you use a credit card to pay for most things and haven't got an Apple Watch, get one. It's worth it just for this functionality.

I wonder how much of Apple Pay Cash not being rolled out in other countries is due to there not being nearly as much need for it compared to the US. I mean, there's still no bank/government run P2P transfer system that's instant (and the third party ones require you and the other party to sign up with that particular service).
