Which is exactly what they’ve been doing for months. Component prices didn’t just go up yesterday.
Yupp, I am looking at Argos and curry’s as we speaking. Deciding whether I should buy anything this weekend before prices are updated by Monday! However 1TB MacBooks are still pricey and so are 256gb iPad. Might consider buying refurbished or even more savings.

Knew I should have just ordered one when I was looking to update my M1 Mac mini the other weekend. Just looked and although the base M4 / 16GB price hasn't increased and is still £799 the storage upgrade from 512GB to 1TB has gone from £200 to £500 here in the UK, so a £300 / 30% increase on price of the spec I was looking at taking it from £999 to £1299.
given this is the case, mini prices are up across the board, not just the pro version, poorly articulated article

Good thing I ordered mine a month ago. Still like 20 days until it ships but I have a different problem. I used affirm with the 0% financing option thinking "ohh I'll have the whole thing paid off before it even ships" but I didn't realize apple doesn't charge for backordered items so Affirm canceled the card because they were never charged.
When does apple put through the charge for backordered items that are back in stock and what happens if the card used to purchase it has expired? Do they have some kind of reconciliation email process that allows you to change cards?

I really have to wonder if folks will buy them with those prices.
When the article was first posted, they did not mention the base mac mini. The article was later updated after my post of noting the base model 16G/256G was back and at $799.
Gaming is like drugs -- those in it are addicted and will pay anything for their fix. They don't even blink at a $5K gaming PC. Gaming was a $200B industry last year. Fortunately, I've never found it to be something I wanted to try.

You can't get your hands on a new Mac Studio until October, so there's no point in ordering one anyway. Maybe by then they'll have an M5 Max version.

You should brush up on your reading comprehension. I clearly stated I don't game. But, I'm also not blind and constantly keep up to date on gaming deals and how people snatch them up like crazy. Gamers are buying 4090 and 5090 GPU's for $2000-$3000 or more.

He does have a point though ( Although I didn't buy the "gaming as an addiction" argument, gaming is nowhere near as problematic as either social media or FOMO marketing in tech ), in that, outside of some very specific use-cases, gaming has been the main driver for pushing up minimum required specs, and so price, in consumer PCs for about two decades now. A 5090 is an expensive piece of kit.
