Maybe soon Siri will be able to translate "Canadian English".

Oh you have the same issue we have in Australia? “I can’t translate Australian English yet. Sorry about that.”

Pretty lame given 99.9% of Australian English is the same as American English. It’s not like I’m asking it to translate, “Struth mate, I’m as dry as a dead dingo’s donger” into French.

I use Siri in French.

Turn the volume up, Siri (using Runtastic).
- I can't, you're not listening to music.
- Turn the speaker up.
- I can't, you're not listening to anything.
- Turn the general speaker up
- You're not listening to music at the moment
- I don't care about music, turn the general volume of the phone up
- Here's what I found for I don't care about music turn general tune phone app.

Siri seems very creative when finding excuses not to work.

Play music, Siri.
- OK. Playing music.
Then nothing happens. Ever.

Hey, Siri ?
Hey. Siri.
Hey ! Siri !
HEY SIRI !!!
*Walks up to phone, sreams*
HEEEEEEEEY SIIIIIIRRIIIIIIIIII !!!!
- What can I do for you ?

What's the weather like tomorrow ?
- I don't know where you are, location services are unabled.
- Enable them.
- I'm sorry, I can't.

What's 34 by 89 ?
- I can't do math (in French...)
*or*
- Here's what I found on the internet for what's 34 by mighty canine.

What does that mean ?
- I can only translate English.

Search the reciepe for guacamole on the internet please.
- Here's what I found for "search the reciept for gamma oil on skillet breathe".

Show me the way to go to X place.
- OK, I found the way to go to "Insert some place's name somewhere on another continent you've never been to".

How long to go to Brest (Brittany, France).
- OK, here's the way to go to Brest (Bielorussia, 3000 kms off).

Show me the way to hometown
- I don't know where *misspelled* is.
Show me the way to neighbouring village
- OK, here's how to go to *random village somewhere in Mexico*.

Hey, Siri, what were the results for Euromillions today ?
- Do you mean baseball, football, hockey ?
No, the lottery, Euromillions.
- OK, here's what I found about Uro minions on the internet.

Hey Siri, take a note that...
- OK here's your note : [That.]
I need to go to the hairdresser. Hey Siri.
- bip.
Remind me that I need to go...
- Bibip.
To the hairdresser
- OK, here's your reminder for later today [I need to go]. Save it ?
**** this ****
- No need to be rude.

Siri is stupid, Siri doesn't work, siri is useless. Siri is actually somehow worse than when it could only do very simple specific tasks on iOS 5...

I would NEVER spend £1000 on a device with a 12 month warranty.
Truely shocking that apple thinks they can get away with this

UK

• Google Pixel 2 2 year warranty.
• One plus 5 2 year warranty.
• Samsung S8 2 year warranty.
• Samsung note 8 2 year warranty.

• ALL iphones 1 year warranty.

shame on you apple, put your money where your mouth is and offer standard 2 year Warranty.
That's just problem with your country or you are unaware of something.

In Poland the seller is held accountable for 2 years, no matter what the producers says. It's their problem.

So if you buy from Apple.com/pl you have full 2 years of warranty and Apple is held responsible. Sometimes this government regulations can be helpful. Normally, I don't like this excessive regulations but in this case, in Poland, Apple's warranty length doesn't play any role.

Since UK is still in EU, I think you have similar situation, but don't know ; ) You're brexiting soon so it won't matter in the future.

Yep we have 6 years here in the UK and 2 year EU also.
The problem is, you have to prove the fault was present prior to taking ownership. This is near on impossible.
But thats for the reply.

What? That's strange, in Poland is as simple as warranty. If the phone doesn't have any serious external signs of damage, if anything goes bad (speaker doesn't work, Touch ID stops working, etc.) they just repair it without any issues.

Based on the title and story, I thought that this thread was about Apple hiring more people to work on Siri. But it seems to have been hijacked to talk about warranties.

Anyway, I'm all for improving Siri, which has been a disappointment. I never use it on the desktop, partly because I don't want people to hear what I'm doing on my computer and partly because it's just as easy to do things the conventional way. The only time I ever use Siri on my phone is when I'm driving. I sometimes use it to read and respond to texts, but anything beyond that is an exercise in frustration. I'm skeptical that this hire by Apple will help, though.

Am I a bad person for initially reading that headline as "Apple Hires A-Team..." ?

LMAO ... to be quite honest Apple NEEDS an A-Team to fix Siri ... and B.A. to pitty the fools that have been holding back it's advancements!

Mmmm-AAAAA-oooooo HuminaHuminaHumina ... wait wrong quote.

"before you start taking pics,
Siri is in dire need of a fix.
Apple staff keep being lazy playing the fool,
My fists be up in your grill gonna make you drool"

Sounds like the employees felt secure jobs at Apple were better than a cash purchase. Seeing as they are the capital worth “purchasing,” without jobs Apple doesn’t benefit. Hopefully us consumers benefit too!

Win-win-win :)

Great thinking. Most likely though some key staff threatened to leave the company if Apple where to purchase them - they've already seen what happened to original Siri developers, and their not having that.

Maybe soon Siri will be able to translate "Canadian English".

You cannot understand us eh? what's the matter in understanding the word "eh"?? ;) The USA english is even more messed up ... cannot spell colour/favourite right ... still using yards/miles for distance and cannot keep proppa british english or metric measurement like the majority of the world ;) (I'm kidding not trying to start a war here hhehe).

Yeah, the ability to translate in real time through headphones is a Star Trek level step forward. Apple needs to respond pretty quickly.

That was the sleeper part of the event! Real solid use of their translate.google.com service. Something I'm curious about though ... if the presenter that asked the questions had the headset would the services voice reply in another language use a feminine voice since he's male? hmm.

Unfortunately such a great service, as immensely helpful as it is, only makes human minds lazy - an excuse not to learn a language. Still incredible real world use of technology.

He said "Jtejure, mec, j'ai l'gosier ratatiné comme un clébard crevé", in essence.
That's one handsome dog, btw. I couldn't help but notice, in spite of the unfortunate context.

Here you go anyway.
