She did well quitting Google.

Google is a company that hasn't introduced anything new, nothing successful in the last 10 years. Not even buying Tony Fadell's Nest, they could make something worth anything for anyone!

Google works in the cloud, so some of their accomplishments might not gain the publicity as Apple. But, their work in AI and Machine Learning is incredible.

They are definitely serious with the health orientated approach. Health Kit and Apple Watch are definitely projects at this junction.
There's been discussion recently (including on Mad Money) about how Apple could make products that people feel they need... not just want. Health could be the answer for some people; Apple Watch having some future health-related functions that people feel are essential would increase Warch's stickiness.

Good win for Apple. I recall reading early reports about Nest (before the Google buy out) and Dr. Matsuoka was one of the key players in creating the Nest Thermostat.

No innovation in the pipeline.

Apple is laser focused on watch bands and battery cases.

That won't happen until they can contain costs. Not just the $$$ cost but thermal and size costs. However do realize that this might not be far away, the "S" processor in the watch is built on an old and rather large process, a shrink to 14nm of below could allow for all sorts of real estate for a GPS subsystem. However with GPS on board you run into the thermal or power costs again.

One thing that is obvious is that Apple has a lot of potential for improvements to the watch, it is just a matter of using tech that is already mainstream.

Oh sorry, you're right, once there's a gps chip in place there's no way to turn it off when it's not needed. Silly me.

Sarcasm maybe! I hope everyone understands that the feature could indeed be turned off. On top of that there is always the possibility presented by 14 nm and smaller tech. AMD doing a similar shrink for GPUs is seeing about a doubling of performance per watt. This means plenty of performance capability in future devices. The other thing people need to realize is that if Apple did go GPS signal processing and deriving position data would likely be done in existing hardware. That is the added circuitry would for the most part be analog.

Yoky initially left UW to go to Twitter, which doesn't get mentioned probably because it was a bizarre move. She seems to hop from tech company to tech company pretty darned often - I have my doubts she'll be at Apple very long.

If any of the rumors about how badly NEST has been managed are true we will likely see many top level people leave the company. Considering how bizarre and expensive Nest's products are some of these rumors are likely true.

As for how long she will be at Apple who cares really. At that level there is a different view of people and one says that taking risks and seeking opportunities is a good thing. Being an executive is nothing like being involved in a 9-5 job where you end up stuck for years.

Look for example at the guy that has jumped from Apple to AMD and a bunch of other companies designing microprocessors and getting teams on track. Literally a couple years at a time with a company but look at the benefits to the companies that hired him. Results are expected and frankly that is what you get paid for.

Absolutely.

OK I will bite, what does GPS have to do with health?

Borderline? Absolute you mean. Smart and good looking.

I didn't want to sound sexist but yeah see is hot looking in that photo. Tim seems to be on a mission to hire the most beautiful woman in tech.

Apple hires marketing people: OMG Apple so dumb only hires marketing people!!!
Apple hires robotics and health experts: No one cares.
Or maybe it's because this is a woman?

Amazingly overpriced

Still offer more functionality than similarly priced Android watches. And yet Android watches do cost almost the same as the Apple watch.

Actually this is not correct considering Google has a tendency to show off everything they're working on, even if they're just concepts or prototypes that never see the light.

Every company makes announcements to keep their name out there or gauge interest. Not many companies reorganize in order to give their divisions more autonomy as Google/ABC has.

Accurate tracking of your fitness activities that deal with distance and time. Counting steps is a terribly inaccurate measurement and for people who are inactive and nearly worthless for anybody but seditiary people.

They aren't doing anything groundbreaking.

Been talking about it for years, yet they have nothing. While companies that didn't talk much about it (Mercedes, Volvo, etc.) seem more eager to release one FOR REAL.

Google lives for the flashy newspieces, that's their product, that's what drives their stock.
