I use Passbook almost everyday at Starbucks. It's awesome!

----------

Ya because finding the app, launching it, and taping 1-2 more times to bring up your card is so much the same as doing one swipe with Passbook on the lock screen when I arrive at Starbucks. Try again.

Wow revolutionary

It's a short cut

So now you're complaining how inefficient iOS "multitasking" works; really lack there of

Look passbook is dead. Read about it.

If the iPhone had real multitasking you wouldn't care for passbook.

I also use the Starbucks app. It's still slow.

Really the iPhone should know I'm at Starbucks - pre open the card for scan before I even lift my hand in my pocket

Better yet NFC

Btw I'm the biggest iPhone supporter here

Fingerprint Sensor
Face Recognition

Both are gimmicks and are very unreliable. I had a friend who had fingerprint security on his laptop and I could use my fingerprint to unlock it.

This will only be relevant when your retina screen actually becomes a fingerprint scanner. until then, it's just not worth doing in it's current form. Like others have said, I can see "Finger-Gate" appearing across the web.

Probably working on the next generation iDevices, i.e. iPhone 2014 or even iPad 5, as it's seem a bit too late to implement such technology in less than two months prior to release. In addition, it was lately reported that apple has already begun the new iPhone production.

It reminds me when Apple posted some jobs listing for LTE and telco engineers back in 2010 which made us hope to see such technologies in the iPhone 4.

Would the fingerprint password work like this: Let's say I am a client of the Bank of America and I want to transfer funds to buy Steve's yacht. BofA would have to know that I had a fingerprint enabled iPhone and if that phone entered their site, it must be me who is manipulating the phone and so I wouldn't need to enter a password. Is that a correct scenario?

Highly not possible that iphone 5s would have a fingerprint sensor

Or will we even be seeing the next iphone so soon????

I doubt it's that bold of a plan at the moment. It would be more like a screen lock, but that would be my opinion.

I don't see this happening for another year or more. I think Apple are just buying up companies that are into the latest "hinted" fads in the hope that if it does become a reality they are already in the race with the technology.

High quality fingerprint sensors properly configured with the right software are extremely reliable & have been for several years now.

It's the low cost units on consumer grade laptops that have given the wrong impression to many users. High end ThinkPads with fingerprint scanners are the de-facto choice for various top secret government agencies and other enterprises in the public sector.

If done right by Apple it's an advantage, but not the type of "feature" that consumers will clamor for. By nature as one can see in this forum, a huge number of people love to complain or imagine the worst.

Apple will hype it to the hilt, whether it ads to the iPhones appeal is questionable.

U didn't need passbook

That was in their app before passbook existed so try again

You have it backwards, you don't need another app now.

No one here claimed it was revolutionary just that they used it and liked it. What is your problem? You seem determined to correct people's opinions on it. You don't like it, fine but guess what, other people do. Sorry that pisses you off so much.

Well, with Passbook, the boarding pass is always accessible with a single swipe from my lock screen, without using my passcode. It also temporarily bumps my screen up to full brightness to optimize contrast for barcode scanning. Is that available through the AA app or any other app? Oh, it isn't? Yeah, I didn't think so.

"U" don't know what you're talking about so try again.

If they are just starting to look at hiring now then theres no way it will be in the 5s.

"Starting to look?" Read the description again. The software to be developed and maintained already exists. 999 chances out of 1000, they're replacing an employee, not creating an all-new position.

There's no inference that can be drawn from this job posting, other than that product development work continues. It doesn't tell us how Apple will be using the technology, or when. They might have had a fully-developed product suitable for the 5S (6, 6S, 7, 7S...) at the time of acquisition. Maybe it's intended for an all-new device, so Siri can tell you, "I detect a fingerprint on your iGlasses. I believe you will find a lens cloth in your shirt pocket."

I'm happy actually.

Passbook could be a better shortcut app but its not.

They should rename passbook as shortcuts

Bro I've been boarding planes with my iPhone before your mom got you your first iPhone 5

So I'm experienced with the first airlines/airports that started this.

It's not a huge time saver. Big woop I reopen my app after I unlock

What does the s stand for in iPhone 5s?

Apple fans think it means superior.
Samesung fans think it mean ****
Google fans think it means security (or lack of it)
Windows mobile fans think it means stale

I know they purchased the company (software and devs) a while back so it has been close to complete minus changes for intergation but I just dont see it making it into the 5s if they are still adjusting the team. Dont get me wrong I would LOVE to see it in the 5s I just dont wanna get my hopes up.

i can't help feeling this will soon be a reality of the game "Beneath a steel sky", where "Overman" goes to to the doc with a glass he picked up in a club to get finger prints to open a door, thats restricted.

(not the doc part) ... well maybe...

But the point is, this could increase extra services :) like finger print forgery.

and then shortly After get hit by a buss

Now why would anyone using a phone get hit by a buss shortly after? Is anyone holding a pistol on your head forcing you to unlock the phone on a hazard places, like crossing the road for example? Use the phone where and when safe to use, it's a bloody common sense.

HP Laptops have the scanner, I enjoy it.

Yeah the scanner on new HP laptops work with no issues with windows 8 and the software is pretty easy to setup.

I think people base the experience on previous years.

----------

3GS, S was for speed
4S, S was for Siri
5S, S for security?

seems logical enough. I'm all for a fingerprint ID to unlock, purchase things on iTunes, and be integrated with PassBook and a wallet sort of thing with major cc companies.

6S, S for sorry ?
