That's so ignorant it's funny. The iPad is a big phone and there was nothing revolutionary about the MacBook Air...

So the new iMac, mountain lion, iOS 6 the complete redefinition of the table market, a growing market share and their biggest revenue in history and you think the company is in trouble?

We've had no new product announcement for five months and people are bored? They want the OS to be a different colour for the sake of it because evolution of hardware and software isn't 'sexy' enough.

Maybe apple should throw the desktop OS away and give us their version of windows 8, cause that's working out so well for Microsoft!

We don't need change for changes sake, I'm excited for what comes next but when a company is giving back 100 BILLION dollars to share holders cause they are making too much money, I don't think there's an issue....

No, I think Apple have peaked. Guess what happens when you peak and you do nothing about it? And yes, for all intents and purposes the iPad IS a big iPhone. The difference is what the developers do with the software. The reason it was so damn successful was firstly it was Apple, secondly they were already riding a big wave from the iPhone 4 and thirdly there was zero competition. The Macbook air came out in 2008, I said last two years. Trust me, Apple are under intense pressure to deliver this year from the shareholders. They have also been getting multiple negative reviews about how tired iOS is, which has to be a revolution and NOT a evolution this time around.

So the tech geeks who get easily bored are tierd with iOS. Yawn. Go play with an S4 if you're bored. Plenty of bloatware there to keep you busy.

I hate it when they obscure the year with Roman numerals which should be banned. What is this the year 100AD.

Anyway I can't wait for ios 7. I hope it is better than the yawn feast ios 6 was.

If you can't read Roman Numerals then you need to go back to the second grade.

M = 1000
X = 10
I = 1
MMXIII = 1000+1000+10+1+1+1 = 2013

Roman numerals aren't as simple as that (ex: IV means 4) but for 2013 it really is that simple.

This is good - a sign that Apple is stepping up their developer relations.

When Microsoft was the platform king, one thing you certainly couldn't say is that their developer communication was lacking. They did a fantastic job there - especially with things like Channel 9, giving you essentially TED-like talks by the OS developers explaining how stuff works, giving best practice advice and answering questions.

I hope Apple keep this up and, in fact, do more.

Developing for an OS, it's basically a black-box. You have certain documented and supported inputs and outputs, but there are an awful lot of permutations and it's good to open up communication with the guys who built the thing to make sure everyone's making the best use of it (and that the developers can get a feel of how people expect to use it).

Nice one. They must have heard my pleas on another thread lol. Hope they come back to London.

The WWDC logo looks a bit like the previous iPod nano that people thought was going to be developed into an iWatch. Are the roman numerals another clue? They've got to have some hardware goodies to announce at WWDC otherwise the media would have nothing to touch and drool over. Here's hoping.

Are we going to have some major new SDK features in iOS 7?

Apple's been keeping a lot of toys to themselves with iOS 5 and iOS 6... a few things that come to mind:

1 - The maps app runs on the lock screen
2 - The maps app has stylized notification banners
3 - The stocks app has a widget in the notification center, as does the weather app
4 - Various apps integrate with Siri (even third party apps like Open Table) - but no public SDK for that
5 - The UIWebView in Safari runs a better version of WebKit than the one in the SDK.

From iOS 2 - iOS 4 it seems like the public SDK was pretty similar to what they used internally, but somewhere around iOS 5 they started showing off new features that third party developers obviously can't compete with because Apple doesn't ever add the needed parts to the SDK. Maybe they'll correct it with the iOS 7 SDK.

Weird how all of those 5 things are available on Cydia.

Only hardware goodies we might see at WWDC would be macs. If the media is hoping for a brand new product at WWDC they'll be disappointed. MacPro doesn't count since the media could care less about it.

Good for second chance

The only thing is "its not the same" is it.... No Tim cook on stage.

Still, better than nothing i suppose, I'm just wondering why Apple just couldn't sell more tickets ? Would have been easier .

Looks like Apple missed the mark on this one... I dunno why since they know WWDC sold out big last year. They should of planned better.

Mountain Lion is still buggy and who wants a Mac Pro to be a huge iPhone, anyway?

Someone earlier mentioned Mountain Lion as being one of Apple's home-runs.

I would beg to differ. While Mountain Lion (and Lion) operate on 60% of Mac's hardware (last time I remember), that still left over 40% of the professional users [people who earn their living using a Mac, i.e., creative professionals] still using in all likelihood Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and a few Leopard (10.5).

The notion that a large minority (40%) still prefer software that includes Rosetta and a preference toward old-school Macintosh User Interface Guidelines (instead of runing your cursor over a pixel and maybe a pop-up or drop-down menu will magically appear) and work with an interface that is designed for computers, and not iToys, and then you have a definite problem.

Perhaps the reason Mac sales are so low these days are because they come with Mountain Lion pre-installed (and very difficult to reinstall, should the need occur). People are holding onto their Snow Leopard Macs and laptops and updating those as much as possible. Maybe the laptops aren't selling as well because it comes with Mountain Lion pre-installed. Why upgrade when none of your software works with the latest MacBook "Pro"?

And then they kill off the 17" flagship model.... once the bragging rights of Steve Jobs when it was first introduced, and now magically DOA. And Mac Pro is pretty much dead in mud, as they say, since Apple apparently doesn't like the huge profit margin the Mac Pro line brings in, considering it hasn't truly been updated in five years.

Just throwing that out there....

Plus, I'd like to get my 14-year-old daughter into it, but I'm worried she'll be overwhelmed by the complexity and quickly lose interest. Especially for her sake, I think a more Visual Basic-style IDE for iOS would be great.

Geek dad tries to hook 14 year old daughter on coding. Good luck with that. I tried with both my daughters and all I got was a <rollseyes>

Having said that, I have seen 12 year old boys eyes light up when I showed them GameSalad. But no promises. (I'm an IT instructor at an all boys international school.)

Here's my prediction.

Everyone knows that Apple leaves hints in their invites, notice all the colors overlapping and turning purple? Apple’s combining OS X and iOS, and also see the WWDC being inverted below it, in a purple gradient? The purple gradient symbolizes the iOS+OS X and notice that “DC” becomes XI II… XI being eleven… Apple’s releasing OS XI AKA 11…

there's further proof when you look at last years invite, and see that the colors are all over the place, but just starting to move together... like they were putting all of this together.

A city near me? Are they coming to Adelaide? That's my nearest city. Still a few hours drive away. Oh yea they only mean US people...

I feel your pain. Gold Coast here.. not even a Sydney event? Seems crazy when Oz must be one of their biggest customer bases? :confused:

If you want a true view of how backwards they've become, look at their Retina Macbook Pro (flagship) lineup. If you ignore the OS and glowing apple logo, and just look at specs, Apple only has $2300+ laptops for people who require power. Everything else is high markup low specs but in a shiny case.

True. But many people are buying them for their OS and not hardware.

sorry, but you don't get how apple rolls. iterative design cycles that continually improve a product is exactly what they do. revolutions are not annual. apple 2, mac, imac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone, iPad...all years apart from one another. then, as the product matures, it is I proved upon.

That's not to say that sometimes lots of those iterative improves cant align and come together in to a much bigger seeming change. I think we could well see that with ios7 a quantum evolution. Apple seem to have been sawing the seeds of it for the last 3 versions, at least.

They did Sydney last year. It was announced in about the third round of dates.

The Mac Pro doesn't count? You serious? That'd be a pretty significant thing, considering how the pro market is dangling by a thread. They need to refocus on their roots.

Doesn't count in the eyes of the media. All major media cares about are iPhones and iPads. Oh and anything new like an "iWatch" or "iTV". Still, WWDC is the perfect place to announce a new MacPro. Would make a lot of developers really happy. :)
