Apple today updated its homepage to honor former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away yesterday at the age of 100.

The longest-lived president in U.S. history, Carter served in the position from 1977 to 1981 and was known for redefining the post-presidency with his focus on human rights and diplomacy through the Carter Center, for which he won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Carter was also a prominent advocate for and participant in the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also honored Carter in a tweet on Sunday.

Raise your glass to Jimmy for helping to legalize home-brewing !

When The Carter Center began leading the international campaign to eradicate Guinea worm disease in 1986, there were an estimated 3.5 million cases in at least 21 countries in Africa and Asia. Today, that number has been reduced by more than 99.99%. In 2024 so far there have been 7 cases.

The people we have in charge today are so much weaker than Carter was, yet some of them still have the audacity to say bad things about him.

I'm sure we can all quibble about the Presidential actions of every single President

I have no idea how anyone could think he wasn't a great man, husband, father and just "person"

He probably did more humanitarian work than all other Presidents combined

US President is a job that is messy
I personally find it necessary to compartmentalize feelings about the person vs their presidency

One of the very best US Presidents.
Revisionist historian are we? Jimmy was a great man and humanitarian, but he was out of his element as President. You can read your history books to see all the missteps he took as President. A lot of us greybeards lived through it.
The man was a square peg in a round hole.
And a very selfless and kind man who has helped many people less fortunate.
Very true. One of the greatest human to ever lived.

No, he wasn't a great politician, but was a better person that every president after him, combined.

I'll personally take a better, honest and more polite person over anything else.
I would agree. His term wasn't great at all however instead of ca$hing in after as most presidents do, he took a different approach and gave his time, effort and money to noble causes. Maybe it was a way to atone for the blunders of his administration. Either way, he deserves the praise for that. Better late than never. RIP.
