Recently added a 2nd iCloud account for the wife's iPad and iPhone. I tied them to the wife's unique gmail account. Now my wife is trying to update apps on her iPad from the iTune store, which requires entering the Apple ID password. However, she receives an error message saying password invalid. So we tried changing the password, but the results are the same: Password invalid. Any help on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

When you install an app from the App Store the installation is tied to the Apple ID that is currently logged in to App Store on the device.

If you log out and log in with a different Apple ID, as you've done, all apps installed on the device continue to be tied to the Apple ID they were installed with. Updating those apps requires the password for the Apple ID they were installed with, not for the Apple ID currently logged in on the device.

It sounds to me like you're entering the password for the second Apple ID, when you should be entering the password for the first Apple ID (the one the apps were installed with). If this is the case, you have two options:

1) Delete all apps installed with the previous Apple ID, and reinstall them from the App Store (if they're paid apps, you need to pay for them again unless both your first and second Apple ID belong to the same family and the apps support Family Sharing)

2) If you don't want to delete the apps, you need to continue to enter the password for the first Apple ID (the one they were installed with) whenever you want to update them. Also, to my knowledge the apps will not update automatically while a different Apple ID is logged in to the device - you'll need to manually check for updates

Puonti thanks for the quick, thoughtful reply!
I would like to get her completely untied from my account, so I'm thinking of deleting the apps and reinstalling. All of the apps are free ones, however several are important ones.(Numbers, Pages, Keynotes, Gmail, Google Photos, etc) If I delete them can I download them again from the Apple App Store?
Thanks again for the help,

You're welcome!

Yes, at least the apps you listed above by name can be reinstalled from the App Store after you have removed them.

The only apps you would not be able to reinstall are such that have been previously installed with your Apple ID, but have since been removed from the App Store for whatever reason. They usually remain available to the Apple ID they were installed with (as long as the device and its iOS version supports them), but new Apple IDs would not be able to install them.

Really? I can update the apps on my iPad without having to enter my Apple ID password.

Have you also installed the apps on your device with one Apple ID; then logged that Apple ID out from App Store / iCloud on that device; then logged into App Store / iCloud on that device with a different Apple ID; and finally tried to update the apps that were installed on that device with the first Apple ID?

I have deleted and installed the 12 apps that had updates. Ran into some problems that I'm working on. Surprisingly one problem is with Notes, Pages, Keynote. It tells me to connect to server, but I'm not sure what "server" refers to in this case. I tried iCloud.com and Xfinity.com (my internet provider)and both give me this message: There was a problem connecting to server. Check server name and IP address and try again. Sure would appreciate some help.

Thanks.

That shows when I clicked the 3dot icon at the top of the left column after the Pages label. I think I'm learning that it is not an issue. I did a test and created a document in Pages and it showed up on the wife's phone. I went to iCloud.com on her iPad and Pages didn't show (even though Pages, Numbers, and Keynotes are switched on in iCloud), however clicking on the iCloud Drive icon showed the test document. On my computer when I go to iCloud.com Pages, Keynote, Numbers show and clicking on them shows their documents. Is this an issue I should worry about?
Thanks again,

I still don't know where this 3-dot icon that you mentioned is. App Store on the iPad? Files app on the iPad? Pages app on the iPad? Some page on iCloud.com? That said, it does sound like the apps are working and the documents you create are being synced correctly.

Pages not showing up on icloud.com when browsing on the iPad is normal, it only shows up when browsing on desktops / laptops.

I need to learn to make a screen shot. When I tap Pages in launchpad I get a screen with that shows documents(iCloud Drive or On My iPad or Recently Deleted) on the right and a column on the left(Locations, Favorites,Tags). the 3-dot icon is above and to the Right of PAGES. I realize now it is for users who are part of a group with an administrator and users, which I am not. We're just a retired couple with iPhones, iPad, and a MacBook.

Thanks for the comment about Pages not showing up in iCloud.

I visited my 45 year old son and he helped me setup the second iCloud, however he is mostly a Lynix and Android man. Came home and realized I had significant issues. I'm sure I would have never figured things out without your help! We probably will have an app to two in the future that won't update, but I know how to proceed.

The only issue left is after deleting and downloading LastPass it won't let the iPad login, so I'm off to their website.

Thanks again and you have been a GREAT GREAT help!

Ah, now I know which 3-dot icon you're referring to!

In this case I don't believe you need to be concerned with the "Connect to server" text that shows up when you tap on that. It's not a warning or error message, but (I believe) a feature that allows you to connect to a network server to open and store files.

Since you are already using iCloud to sync your Pages documents between different devices, you don't need to connect to any other servers and can ignore this feature.

You're welcome!
