I just set up an Apple ID for my new Mini. Actually, I sort of did it twice. in my first attempt I misspelled the main email address associated with the account. The verification notice from Apple for the rescue email address presumably went to someone else who actually has that email address.

My question is, can the recipient of that email actually do anything with it that I need to worry about? I know that sounds crazy-paranoid, but I did provide my Paypal account info when setting up the ID....

Your password isn't emailed when you setup a new account.

He could try to reset the password using that email but I'm assuming there would be secondary forms of authentication required.

I think you'll be fine bro.

There's also a fair chance nobody else is using that mis-typed email address.

Go back and edit the first Apple ID to one of your working email addresses. http://appleid.apple.com click on Manage Your Apple ID. Sign in with the incorrect email address and the password you created, and edit the account name/primary email to something that works. (There was no need to create a second Apple ID account.)

Go to iTunes, go to Account, and remove your PayPal from that account.

No further worries.

Well, the first attempt was never verified by me, because it went to a wrong/nonexistent email address that I can't access. So I can't do anything to modify it.... (?)

You can sign into Manage Your Apple ID without verifying, exactly so people can deal with the problem you're having. When you sign in you will be told you haven't verified yet, but if you try to edit the primary email/account name you'll find you can.
