This is about my daughter any help is appreciated.

She got her only Apple ID when she was in the fifth grade. She linked it to a silly name and a yahoo account that she hasn't accessed in years. Today new iPhone 7. Can't access iCloud since she can't verify account since its linked to a very old yahoo mail. That account is pretty much toast, can't figure a way to recover it.

Should she just start a new Apple ID. I'm stumped. Thanks.

On a desktop browser (or iTunes on a desktop), log into the Apple ID account, from there you should be able to change email associated with the account to a newer email account without needing access to the old Yahoo account. As long as you have the password to the Apple ID that she's been using you should be fine.
