That was my FIRST Apple computer i used back in Gr 4 lol. I still remember my Dad’s work colleague finding out about it and giving me a double-sided floppy 5.25“ floppy (when the PC’s and Commodores couldn’t read double-sided floppies) with Karateka on it. Class dismissed lol.
It was also my first computer, I was a teacher at that time, and remember punching a second hole in the floppy disks to make them two sided. We used VisiCalc and Bank Street Writer. My first games were Olympic Decathlon from some small company called Microsoft, and the first Castle Wolfenstein.

I couldn’t afford an Apple computer in the early 80s so I got a ZX Spectrum instead. I didn’t change the world but I did git gud at Jetset Willy 😁
I couldn’t afford an Apple computer in 1982 either but I bought one anyway because it was so far ahead of the competition I had to. TCO man. Here it is 2021 and I still prefer Apple gear to anything else on the market. Update very five years like clockwork.

Love the jacket. I drive a small 2 seater Mazda and have thought a jacket like this would be cool but might possibly make me look like a right wanker.

I miss those manuals. I often feel that I am not using my Mac and its OS to its maximum potential because I do not have a manual that shows me all of its features and capabilities. I know there is a ton of published books and online stuff but I still miss those manuals.
Yeah, the manuals were pretty neat and had an “enthusiast” element to them. I still have my ][gs manuals and the extra manuals that Apple sold along with them.

Neat memories. Did you ever use Mind Prober? I remember Castle Wolfenstein (or possibly Beyond) costing between $35-$45, and it seemed to become corrupted often.

I remember a couple of years ago, I stopped into a grocery store and they had tomatoes and avocados on sale really cheap. So I bought some... and there is this seasoning salt that I really like... that I can only ever get there for some reason... but the bottle is like $3.99. A customer who was also in the tomato, and avocado area made conversation with me about how good the price was on them that day. I mentioned the seasoning salt to him and how I liked eating sliced tomatoes and avocados as a snack with some sprinkled on them. He saw the $3.99 price tag and said "Oh no! I can't afford to pay that much for salt!"

It really put things into perspective. How $4 is too much for some people to spend on a little treat.

I dunno why... but your post made me think about that.

Maybe if they can keep using the bottle for salt refills and it's nice-looking enough for dining table, then $3.99 could be worth it.. Groceries are consumables. You perpetually buying it your whole life, it's normal for people to go for the cheapest option, even it's only a few cents difference.

But some collectibles are one of a kind. They can only go up, so if one can afford it, it really is a worthy investment.

Super rich people making silly purchases for fun. The equivalent of me buying an old Transformer on eBay for $20.
I’m on this train, this is crazy money.
All the “investment” approaches theories makes me wonder if it is actually people behind it or just conglomerates, banks, investors pools, etc…

I took computers for granted growing up as my parents' owned a computer business. I was surrounded by  2e and 2c plus other ones like CompuColour, InteliColour and Texas Instruments' TI-99. Everyone at high school wanted my Lode Runner game. Lemmings on Mac was a favourite of mine. Playing Space Invaders and Pac Man on Atari with my sister and neighbours - fond memories.

Wow, Steve Jobs is for sure a hero of the modern world, but paying $66,000 for an old leather jacket because Jobs wore it in a silly picture? That's ridiculous.

I'm going to lift the paving stones outside the old Apple HQ at Infinite Loop and charge $10,000 each for them. After all, Steve Jobs walked on them every day for years.

Agreed.

Also, what's happening with the old headquarters at Infinity Loop? Is Apple still making use of that space or has it been sold off?

Never used Mind Prober. My Castle Wolfenstein had very crude graphicss by today's standards. I think this must have been late 1970s. Black background with, I think, green stickmen as guards. The monitors were monochrome green text. I remember that I once escaped by finding an SS uniform and was able to walk through the Castle. Can't remember having any problems with it. My school allowed staff to take the Apple ][ computers home over Christmas, which was a great move because it generated interest and allowed many of us to become familiar with them. We pitched in to buy 1 copy of each of Wolfenstein and Decathlon and had a mass copying, using Locksmith, so we all had copies to take home. Shortly after a number of us bought our own Apple //es

Apple Computers could not read double sided floppies either, unless you flipped them over, which PCs and commodores could do as well.

You need to go to the back of the class.

It is a mistake, that Assange sells this item. It inspired him to do, what he did. I just don't unterstand...

I have an earlier red version of the Apple ][ reference manual signed by Woz in 1984. I doubt anyone would pay $700K for it but is it worth anything?
