That's the sound of Steve Jobs rolling over in his grave. iTunes on Android, you've got to be kidding me. They really are stretching to reach the masses.

iTunes for Android would be dangerous.

iTunes itself isn't Apple's real business. iTunes is only useful to Apple insofar as it provides a great media experience for their Mac/iPhone/iPad.

Apple has let that slip by failing to move to streaming services. Netflix provides better entertainment value than iTunes movies (2 iTunes SD purchases = 1 month of Netflix in HD with change) in a more seamless experience. It doesn't have the selection that iTunes does, and that's why movie streaming piracy is so rampant. Spotify also provides better entertainment value than iTunes music (it even has a free tier) in a more seamless experience. It has a broadly comparable selection of music to iTunes (20m vs 28m).

"iOS SUCKS, APPLE SUCKS, iOS USERS SUCK...

OMG, ITUNES FOR ANDROID?! YESSS!!!!!"

Excuse me while I go laugh.

I can almost guarantee you that non of the people saying iOS and Apple sucks are going to jump on the iTunes on Android bandwagon.

The only huge benefit I see to this for the average Android user is those who maybe purchased a bunch of iTunes content while they had iOS devices and have since converted, or perhaps use both devices in the home or at work. This would give them a more convenient way to consume this content.

iTunes used to be a huge boon for Apple. I think we are moving away from that. How many people sync their music libraries to their phones now with all of the other options out there. I am not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not what it once was.

To add my anecdotal evidence (lol), I literally know nobody that doesn't simply stream their content anymore. Storage space on their phones are reserved for photos, apps, etc.

I have to wonder if Apple would lose more customers than gain if they launched iTunes on Android.

How Apple users have been tempted to try Android, but continued to buy Apple because they have a huge iTunes collection?

How many Android users who already have a music ecosystem would switch to iTunes on Android?

I'm guessing the first would outnumber the second... As someone who switched from iPhone to Android, I wouldn't have done it if I had a bunch of media in iTunes.

It's very easy to import media into Android. You get a Music folder to begin with. Just plug in your device, open the folder, and then dump it in. There's also DoubleTwist and you can sync wirelessly with it even.

It's only been the recent change to MTP that this has been an issue.

Windows Phone on the other hand, no problem syncing iTunes stuff to it with the app Microsoft made.

Android is great for music, lots of choices of players, and great equalizers and such though.

If Apple want me to start buying music from iTunes again then they are going to have to offer ALAC (Apple Lossless) versions as well as mediocre 256k AAC

Same here. I've stopped buying stuff on iTunes, despite having been a semi-regular customer in the past (bought more than a hundred full albums plus a few hundred songs). An offering of lossless music (or drastically reduced prices) would be the only thing bringing me back. In the meantime I've returned to CDs (!), use Bandcamp or try to obtain my music directly from the labels or artists.

Go read all the threads about Apple making a 4.7 or 5.5" device. If you read lots of pages, you'll see several people saying they think 4" is perfect. I'm also using a Mac as my only computer.

Pardon people for not having same screen size preferences! Perfect differs to different people! What is perfect for me isn't for you. That's why mobile phones and tablets come in various screen sizes.

Don't you mean "what YOU want"?

I can't imagine Spotify has more users than users who own MP3s.

No, I meant what I said, I don't use Spotify, but when iRadio debuted, it was obvious to many of us it wouldn't compete with Spotify. Apple can also offer downloads, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

Will Google charge Apple 30% for all in-app sales of music? ;)

You mean like the streaming music service Google launched last year? Isn't that basically a spotify ripoff?

It would be if it didn't also have cloud storage for all your own music. Which I don't believe Spotify has.

Not the point I'm trying to make.

The same people who criticize Apple for everything, who refuse to use Apple products, who throw names at those who use iOS and/or Macs, are going to turn right around and become Apple customers.

Not everyone fits that category.

I would love iTunes on my S4, bloated as it is, simply for ease of integration with my Mac.

I don't like iOS 7, the iPhone's too small, but I'm still a Mac-head.

EDIT: Then again, I already have most of my music on Google play and stream it to my phone (except damn DRM tracks like Metallica's and RHCP's old catalog). So, sorry Apple, perhaps it is too late.

Spotify like service would be great, don't get a lot of use out of iTunes Radio as it is.

iTunes Radio is pretty much useless...Every time I try to create a station it says that that particular song cannot be used. From what I can see it really only picks up top 40 and extremely mainstream music.

So yes a streaming service of the entire iTunes store would be awesome, but i'm sure if it comes they will gimp it's music selection too!

I didn't say it was a bad thing. I just used it as a rebuttal to her post about people using iTunes on Android or using Apple devices.

And this is why I don't subscribe to Spotify just yet. I knew apple would join the party eventually :)

On the flip side - you could have subscribed to several services and enjoyed the ability of streaming music UNTIL Apple's offering and then switched?
