I think AI is becoming so common and mainstream that it’s better to pay for the service rather than invest in research and resources due to FOMO. It will be like the internet; at the beginning, it was a huge deal, and now it’s everywhere...

It’s insane that Apple didn’t develop their own LLM so far. Beginning of the end?
I don’t think Apple needs their own LLM in order to succeed. Apple doesn’t have its own search engine either. Didn’t Steve Jobs say that focus was important? To say “no” to a lot of things?

If Siri can do the cool stuff, does it really matter who/what she is powered by?

Federighi said "This puts us in a position to deliver something much larger than when we last said we were about to deliver Siri improvements, but smaller than the time before that when we said we are about to deliver Siri improvements, which was larger than the previous time to the time before that when we said improvements were coming, but bigger than the smaller improvement which was smaller than the bigger improvement that we didnt deliver before we didnt deliver the bigger improvement to the smaller improvement, which I am also proud to say we also didnt deliver"

Does Tim Cook really hate Elon so much that’s he’d rather partner with the tech devil than temporarily lean on Grok until Apple Intelligence can stand on its own? 🤔
Why would Apple want to integrate a manipulated AI model that heavily leans into conspiracy theories and neonazism? Apple should indeed stay as far away as possible.

Here's an idea for Apple: If Anthropic's fees are too high, JUST EFFING BUY THEM ALREADY AND GET IT OVER WITH.

Although, I must say, this actually makes sense. This way, when Google is compelled by the courts to stop paying Apple 20 billion a year for default Google search results, Google can pay Apple the same amount for default Gemini search results instead. :) It's pretty obvious by now that Google really likes paying Apple 20 billion dollars a year, and Apple really likes accepting that 20 billion, so why mess with a winning formula? Leave these poor kids alone for gosh sake.

And the wheels keep spinning, round and round.

The interesting/weird/scary thing about Grok is that it shows that an AI or LLM can be steered in a certain (political) direction.

Some years from now when someone gets a weird answer from an AI, people will ask “Which AI did you use to get that answer?” followed by “Oh yeah, you shouldn’t use that one because of <whatever>”

It sort of undermines the premise.

I would also add that a lot of the software that launched under Jobs was developed elsewhere and bought by Apple. Mac OS X/macOS itself is based on NeXTSTEP (and the Darwin foundation underlies iOS and all other derivatives), Safari was based on KHMTL, iTunes was based on Sound Jam MP, iDVD/DVD Studio Pro, Final Cut, Logic, and Siri were all developed by third parties. Countless other features that Apple's implemented over the years used open standards for ease of development. Apple back then knew they didn't need to do every damn thing from scratch.

Oh, no, Apple… please no, at least give users an alternative.

Although my favorite generative LLM, after also trying Claude 4 and Grok 4, is ChatGPT, especially GPT-5, I have to admit that Gemini has a lot of potential with ALL the data Google has in its power. But really, I hope Apple lets us choose where the LLM comes from, because I don’t want to give Google my data.

Google likes paying Apple 20 billion a year because they make a multiple of that amount as a result of Apple using Google for search.

I wonder if the Gemini thing falls into the same category. What’s in it for Google to have Siri powered by Gemini? It’s not like Siri will be spewing ads as a result, right?

Not that insane. Apple has a long tradition of partnering with other companies. For a long time , Apple relied on Google to develop their iOS map app. Eventually , they ended up making their own map app, but it took them almost a decade.

Before Apple made iCloud, Steve Jobs wanted to buy Dropbox but they refused his offer.

Very sad that Apple is not working on their own LLM. Hopefully they are and this is just a bridge deal, because otherwise the future for Apple will be dim.

I can have an in-depth philosophical conversation and ask them to explain and to discuss quantum computing and quantum theory with ChatGPT or Gemini.

Meanwhile, Siri can just about set a timer OK.

Government: The Apple/Google search deal cannot continue.
Apple/Google: OK, we’ll end that deal immediately
ALSO
Apple/Google: We have a new deal NOT released to search. It’s an AI model where Google will be the default model and will pay a certain amount a year to be the default model. :D
