No, you can't specially on day to day usage. Don't get trapped on silly marketing.

Apple was the one that made up 'Retina Display' with that ridiculous formula they use to market it, so I don't think I'm the one here getting caught up by the marketing. There's a clear difference between an iPhone 5S display resolution and a 7+ one. If you can't see that you might actually be blind.

guys really - this isn't even break through stuff . it's been done.

Where is good voice control?

where is functionality where i can take a photo by saying

"SIRI- take a photo"

SIRI - take a video"

good lord they havent even fixed siri yet.

we have a ways to go

actually, after switching from the Galaxy S7 to the IPhone 7 the lower resolution was very noticeable. while reading text, it felt unsharp to me.

but after a few minutes the brain adjusts and you can no longer tell. it's one of those things you only notice when comparing it. it don't notice it anymore. but i'm also not using the S7 anymore ;)

Curved displays are rubbish. Check out the reflection on the edges. Distraction plus.

This isn't true at all. You can clearly see how the iPhone 7 is a lower resolution compared to the Plus and other high resolution Android phones. It's been one of the main weaknesses of the 7 in almost every review as well.
I have a 6s and a 7+ running videos at full resolution. You cannot see pixels in either.

You are seeing a difference in screen type / quality, but not resolution. Remember, black levels are pure black on OLED, so text will look better on them.

Are there no rumors related to micro LED? That is what I am hoping apple does versus oled.

At this junction, I don't believe micro LED will happen on the next generation iPhone. Perhaps the third Gen Apple Watch? I don't see Apple investing in this for the next iPhone, but I think it's likely in the future. If Apple is going to perfect a newer technology with micro LED, knowingly how slow of an adapter Apple is.

Just because you can't doesn't mean nobody else can. The lower resolution of the 7 is indeed obvious to many of us. Photos just don't seem as crisp or clear as higher resolution phones like the 7 Plus or the Samsung phones.

I think the OLED display will be one of the best upgrades to ever happen for an iPhone. I expect them to finally bump the resolution a little higher as well (more so for the 4.7" since its not even 1080p).
oled is samsungs technology either way they make money

Overall pixel density isn't just about making the pixels indistinguishable to the human eye, it also helps with total sharpness. Why would any content or manufacturers make content / displays higher than 720 if that was the case? Also, a higher resolution display helps with the scaling of images and text, not just video.

This changes everything again - OLED displays with magic, like you've never seen before!

But they have the best LCD now!

Why switch to the best display in the market?

LCD is enough to sell to people anyway!
"The Best Display" is nothing more than a claim made and supported by all who make a handsome income off reporting on Apple.

No other tech company gets the attention, the click bait income, that anything Apple generates. Apple shills like Walt Mossberg, David Pogue, and many others, have built their highly lucrative careers off Apple.

It's an amazing testimony to the impact Apple Inc. has had on the tech industry.

OLED?
Apple's late to the party, but better late than never.

You ask a valid question and the answer is it's a pissing match for spec sheets to sell newer phones.

I had a QHD display and it didn't improve sharpness, compared to my 7 Plus. Science backs this up.

"Siri, take a photo."

Siri takes a photo of you making an "O" face.

"Siri, wait for me to smile and then take a photo."

Siri waits.

"Siri, what are you waiting for?"

"I'm waiting for you to smile."

"I am smiling."

"That's a smile?"

"Yes. Just take the dang picture!"

Siri takes a picture of you making an angry "ur" face, and deep learns that is what your smile looks like, so that she can take all future pictures of you when you make that expression.

This new iPhone that has yet to exist is amazing!

So edge to edge display, no chin nor home button , OLED

Wow what does that sound like?

Oh a Samsung.

Except that Samsung phones do have home button, do have a chin and you are right, it is edge to edge of some sort. Maybe Samsung should name their phone series Supernova instead of Galaxy.

Higher resolution is not helpful when you're holding your phone a foot or two from your eyes. To be able to see the difference, you'd need to hold the phone inches your eyes, with a lens to help you focus on the close display.

So you only need higher resolution if you're going to do something like this:

I believe the "All Glass" enclosure is BS. I have a feeling "Liquid Metal alloy" will be utilized. Apple has purchased exclusive interest in the company and their liquid metal sim pin is incredibly strong. Liquid metal has a glassy finish and is an extremely light and scratch resistant alloy.

I can't believe I'm even debating with someone on 720vs1080. Here's a quote from DisplayMate, the website MacRumors praises whenever they release good remarks on iPhone screens:

"For one, it is particularly important to have as many pixels as possible when digitally rescaling images from their native resolution to the display that they are being viewed on. Most images require rescaling and most rescaled images (from either higher or lower resolutions) with fine text and graphics look noticeably to considerably better in side-by-side comparisons on the iPhone 6 Plus with 2.1 Mega Pixels compared to just 1.0 Mega Pixels on the iPhone 6. Twice as many pixels to work with makes a noticeable visual difference. In addition, even with content at their respective native display resolutions, fine text and graphics look better on the iPhone 6 Plus."

Not only that, but the 326ppi is meant for people with standard 20/20 vision. There's people with better vision that that, which means there's people who can see clear differences between the screens.

I was 20/20 in my left eye, and 20/15 in my right after having LASIK in 1999. Before, and now long after that, my vision is not as optimum.

With 20/20 being considered normal, I was delighted to experience it and wish everyone had the opportunity.

Those of you beyond 20/20; you guys are truly blessed, with a touch of cursed thrown in.

Acuity of sight, sound, or even taste allows one to appreciate the best those worlds have to offer, but if anything below that level is the equivalent of hell, I'd prefer my skillset dialed down somewhat.
