I want to upgrade to a iPhone and get rid of my laggy as hell iPod Touch 4G but I am waiting and waiting for T-Mobile to offer it. I have T-Mobile with a old flip phone and get the pay as you go but I would sign up contract and all for a iPhone. I want a iPhone 4S because the iPhone 5 might have a new dock connector which will make all of my stereo docks obsolete.
If you only want the iPhone 4S then you'll have to buy an unlocked one. If you do a Google search you will find out how to make it work on T-Mobile. Many people have been doing it that way instead of waiting. If T-Mobile will officially support the iPhone it most likely won't be before the iPhone 5 is release. By that time you won't be able to get a new 4S. That's not a problem if you are okay with buying used.

The Galaxy Nexus supports all North American UMTS bands with the same radio (which includes T-mobile), so it is possible for one device to do it.

T-mobile was given a ton of bandwidth by AT&T as consolation for the failed takeover..... they have traded some of it back for access to iphone-compatible frequencies....but this is probably as much a move to clear up space for their LTE deployment as for anything else.

I seriously doubt that T-mobile is going to cut a deal for the iphone. It hasn't gone well for Sprint, and Verizon isn't even pushing the iphone at its stores. With AT&T now unlocking iphones, T-mobile will probably find it far cheaper (and less hassle) to let customers bring their own iphones onto the network.

The problem with Verizon and Sprint is resumed to four letters: CDMA.

And this problem does not affect or limit T-Mobile.

Yes and no. One thing is for T-Mobile to make their network compatible to attract iPhone users (according to your link), and another one to make a deal with Apple to officially launch the new iPhone on their network.

Well it is amazing to me that people still think the reason why tmobile never got the iphone is the 3g 1900mhz band. It is simply not the reason? and why is that? Because the radio chip that supports all the bands apple uses along with the 1900mhz one, which by the way is present in the cdma iphone 4, has been around for years.

The reason tmobile never got the iphone is the freaking worst company in the face of earth and her name is AT&T. They wanted tmobile to create a monopoly (that is what they do), but it never happened, so they paid tmobile upward of $3 Billion plus radio spectrum......they finally got what they deserved :)

So what if tmobile never gets the iphone, with their 3g refarming we won't even need it.....there are and there will be plenty of unlock solutions out there, as long 3g works it's all good.....

Wrong, so very very wrong. AT&T likely had little to do with T-Mobile not getting the iPhone since day 1, it likely had everything to do with technology and dollars.

I work at TMO and we've heard a lot of these rumors. Thing is, no one knows. I do think it will happen. Why? T-Mobile is changing their network as I type this to run the iPhone, same bands AT&T is using. They lost 800K customers last year after the 4S came out. I'm sure they don't want to get left behind again. They know how many customers use iPhone's on their network already that they offer free support when you dial 611 (customer service).

What's funny is that Apple actually contacted T-Mobile first about having the iPhone on their network. They declined. Good movie T-Mobile.

Where did you get the info about apple contacting T-mobile first to sell the iphone, loooollllllllllllllll.....

Yeah cause that would make a lot of sense, being the smallest US carrier and all....anyway I am not trying to mock you. The truth is, Verizon was the first one to be approached by apple, and they did not decline, just a deal was not reached, I believe at the time Verizon wanted the iphone to be branded as verizon, like they do on the rest of their crap phones, but apple would not have any of it. Second Apple approached the second biggest carrier in the US, ATT which gladly accepted apple's terms (or they came to an agreement at least) and the rest is history. ATT has seen record profits since, and the rest of the carriers......well, quite the opposite.

Again, the radio chip that supports the Tmobile 3G bands has been around for years, so I don't understand what technology you speak of being the issue here , also, what dollars, I am sure tmobile would have come to an agreement with apple to carry the iphone, seeing that every freaking prepaid cellular company (from cricket to virgin and anything in between) now have the iphone.

ATT has been a stellar seller for apple, and is certainly not a company you push around. ATT was trying to take over Tmobile, and if that woud have happened would it really matter if Tmobile got the iphone or not? NO IT WOULD NOT CAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME COMPANY.

Well Google went to T-Mobile first so it isnt like an impossible thing. T-Mobile was however offered to get the iPhone earlier and T-Mobile declined for what ive read to be Apple asking for too much money and id guess that T-Mobile was unable to add any of its handful of Apps they like to add to their Androids. A coupls are usefull but Apple dont play that way.
Seems T-Mobile is ready to get the iPhone now and its a good move imo. I think Sprint sux. I had them before i switched to TMo and people i know who have them now arent really impressed with them and T-Mobile could get customers from them since the iPhone doent really work real well on Sprint. Ive heard very slow data speeds with Sprint. Not to mention they are the cheapest carrier of the biggest 4.

T-Mobile runs on a different frequency as you probably know and the iPhone doesnt support that frequency so it may have been a round for years but it dont work with iPhones.

As for AT&T, im not a fan of theirs and i am very glad they takeover/merger didnt go thru.

It has to sometime, I mean Cricket has the iPhone for christ's sake. It'll happen when it does, but it will definitely.

By the end of this year, frequency isn't even an issue anymore. It'll work just fine with the iPhone. Remember the whole refarming effort going on right now.

However, I don't think anyone else will be getting the iPad anytime soon other than AT&T/Verizon. Sprint/Cricket/Others never even thought of getting them.

You do not even need to do that. Just go to Apple and buy a Factory Unlocked iPhone. T-Mobile's 3G will work on certain areas, and more to come as the refarm and redo their entire network to work with the iPhone as well as other AT&T phones like the One X or Lumia 900

I am aware of the refarming going on. The rumor also is TMo will be getting the iPad too but for me, that isnt a big deal but it certainly dont hurt.

Of course Apple will add T-Mobile U.S. to the new iPhone carrier list, they do this on purpose every year, to make sales look better.

First it was Verizon added after only being on ATT in the U.S. and sales grew, but they grew due to having all those new Verizon customers now. Then last year Apple added Sprint, again making sales larger, but only because they have all these new Sprint subscribers now. And this Fall T-Mobile will be added, again to increase sales.

My point is, if Apple had all 4 U.S. carriers om board form the start, I bet the sales #'s don't look like they grow so much each year, they would have plateaued at some point. But if you add on a big carrier every year, of course the % of sales grows with that. Not necessarily that the iPhone is selling better.

Disagreed. If Apple had launched on all four carriers, Android wouldn't be nearly as successful as it has been. Here's what happened:

1. Apple launched the iPhone on AT&T.
2. Verizon needed to strike back, so they tried the BB Storm and it was an epic fail.
3. Verizon found Android and make the DROID. The DROID was the beginning of Android as we know it today (not the G1). Verizon kept pushing harder and harder against the iPhone and AT&T.
4. When Verizon got the iPhone, they still pushed Android, as they make more money, and 4G LTE came into the picture.

Verizon is what made Android, and what stopped Apple from dominating the market. Verizon put the big marketing bucks into Android, and what put the big development bucks into the DROID, which is what pushed Android forward.

So your saying all those sales they had for the 4S are still going thru AT&T because Verizon is pushing people to Android phones? I dont agree. And i havent heard or seen one thing that indicates T-Mobile wants to go the LTE route.

Yeah the iPhone on Sprint is slow and from my experience and others i know here in my area that have Sprint, it still isnt very good but what i read a few weeks ago was that T-Mobile see's themselves losing customers and can gain many back by having the iPhone. They didnt try to go with them earlier because Apple wanted a ridiculous amount of money but now T-Mobile sees it as a possitive for the long run.

Sure for them it is cheaper by just letting customers use the iPhone on their network but for many ....like me , EDGE isnt worth sticking with the iPhone on their network. I think they will get more customers if they have the iPhone as a part of their available phones because they are the cheapest of all the others. It certainly wont hurt at all.

T-Mobile will begin rolling out their LTE-Advanced network next year.
