I believe this has gone down faster than my 14 pro, and I just got this phone in late October.

My iPhone 11 Pro Max battery life was amazing and lasted all day and then some for another day, battery life was above 80% after three years.:p
My poor 14 Pro battery is down to 30% by the end of the day is the new norm and closing in on 80% life in the next 6 mo.
My 11 Pro is still at 90%. It sure seems like all iPhones in the past few years can easily exceed that 500 charge cycle time.

Good to know. I had no plans to upgrade my 14 Pro at the time but the battery was complete garbage. The 15 Pro has been excellent so far.

It is unbelievable how easy people are manipulated by Apple. They used recycled batteries in the 14 series hence the short battery lifecycle. They did the same with the 15 series but this time as marketing. At the same time telling users not to charge and use the battery over 80%! Of course it will degrade slower, do not get us started how the iOS code manipulated the statistic so users feel relieved. They did this with iPhone 4 cellular issue's you holding it wrong and performance gate iPhone 6.
They are not telling users to not charge past 80%.

15 Pro Max launch day at 99%. Definitely much better than the 14 Pro Max, which was at like 93% the same time last year.
Yes I've found the same. Launch day 15 Pro Max still at 100%. My 14 Pro Max was almost at 90% at the same point last year. I'd never seen it so bad! Also, I 100% of the time charge wirelessly on my 15 Pro Max, and use it hard every day.

80% after 1000 charges*

* following conditions and caveats apply.

iPhone is never charged above 80% iPhone is never discharged below 50% iPhone is never charged from 50%-80% in less than two equally spaced sessions separated by a cooling off period of no less than 30 minutes. Ambient temperature never exceeds 30 degrees C or drops below 5 degrees C. Any case used does not cover more than 25 (twenty five) percent of the rear face of phone or obscure the Apple logo in any way. Intense CPU processes are limited to durations of no more than 15 (fifteen) minutes allowing iPhone to cool to within 2 degrees C of ambient between sessions. iPhone charging power never exceeds 5W. iPhone charging is only performed with Apple certified cables, with nylon sheaths braided by 16 year old virgins.

* second disclaimer for curmudgeons: This is a joke.

My 15 PM has 120 cycles and 100% capacity still

Not quite launch day but a week or so after

People talking about drop in quality of batteries last year (for the 14) might be on to something.

My launch day iPhone 15 is still at 100%. not sure how many cycles it's had but it regularly sees up to 6 hours of browsing, videos and navigation use a day. I've never needed to charge it during the day even using the 80% cap. It's a stalwart to be sure.

However, I replaced my trusty 8 plus battery last February so it's coming up on 1 year old (actually Apple botched something and whole device was replaced) on the last day before the price rise which I use for work since it has the fingerprint sensor.

The 8s sees light use of about an 30 minutes to hour or so a day and it gets lightly charged every few days or so but the battery has already dropped to 93% with only 50 cycles! I regret swapping the battery since the original battery lasted over 6 years, 800 cycles and was STILL on 83% when it was replaced... Talk about decline in battery quality last year!

This is my first iphone in a long LONG time that 5 months in my battery health is still 100. The only thing I did was stop installing the betas. That's seriously the only different thing I have done, I haven't changed my charging habits at all.

Launch day 15pm 99% after 117 cycles, charged to 100 and drained to ~30% every day, had a launch day 14pm and the battery was 93% at 97 cycles this time last year.

Double the 500 charge cycle for earlier iPhones thanks to the 80% battery charge optimization feature exclusive to the iPhone 15 series?

Will Apple be advertising this "feature" to push iPhone 15 sales?
The reference to 80% in article is different from the feature that allows users to limit charging to 80%. Apple considers a battery to be degraded and in need of replacement if the maximum charge it can hold is now less than 80% of the advertised capacity. What they’re saying is that previously they’d expect a user to get to that in 500 cycles of ideal use, but now they expect users to get there in 1,000 cycles.

This is consistent with my experience of the 14 Pro Max vs 15 Pro Max. I’ve taken no steps to ‘baby’ my iPhone battery, and almost exclusively use MagSafe charging which should be less ideal than slow charging on a cable. However, 5 months into the life of my iPhone, it’s still at 100% of the advertised capacity.

Apple today announced that it retested the batteries in all iPhone 15 models and determined that they are able to meet a higher bar.

iPhone-15-Pro-Lineup-Feature-Gray.jpg

In a support document updated today, Apple says the batteries in the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions, compared to the 500 charge cycles it advertises for all older iPhone models.

Apple told MacRumors that its latest testing for iPhone 15 models involved charging and discharging the battery 1,000 times under specific conditions, but it did not provide any exact details about the process. Apple added that it has continually made improvements to iPhone battery components and its power management system.

This revelation means that it could take longer for the maximum battery capacity of iPhone 15 models to decline to 80% compared to previous iPhone models. However, Apple said it is "investigating" the battery lifespans of older iPhone models, so a comparison based on the latest testing parameters remains to be seen.

In its support document, Apple says the battery lifespan of any iPhone model ultimately depends on how the device is regularly used and charged.

To view an iPhone's battery capacity, open the Settings app and tap Battery → Battery Health & Charging. On iPhone 15 models updated to the latest iOS 17.4 beta, the menu is now simply called Battery Health and shows more info at a glance.

My 13 Pro got down to 81% before the 2 year mark. This was with some charging discipline to not abuse the battery, and primarily using MagSafe. For the last year of use or so, I needed to recharge the phone during the day for it to last. I’m not a heavy user, and have a seperate work issued iPhone that I use during the day. Suffice to say, the battery on that phone was the worst I’ve experienced since my launch day original iPhone. I am hopeful that the 15 Pro will last better, and am shying away from using MagSafe in case that contributed. So far, it’s better than the 13 Pro was in the end, but not that much. It still limps through a day on low power mode…

Better battery life is great. Happy to know that at least all future models will have the improved battery life.

Admittedly it's only been five months, but I've been strictly using the 80% Limit option on my iPhone 15 Pro and the max capacity is still 100%. I'm optimistic that it'll easily last my typical ~5 years between phone upgrades.
I’ve also been using the 80% limit, but battery health already dropped to 99% after 30 cycles or so. None of my previous iPhones went below 100% on the first year, so that was pretty disappointing.

I guess luck applies to individual batteries.

Had my 13 Pro Max on launch and my battery is at 86%.

I don't don't do anything special, but I am obsessed with having ma battery at 100% before I leave the house. And I very rarely see the red batter icon (below 20%).

I know it's not ideal to have your phone at 100% all the time, and I don't see how I can have it at 80% cap. My anxiety will kill me.

After the heavily degrading battery of my Xs I stopped looking for this value in the settings.
First time I checked it on the 13 Pro was before I sold it over eBay. Will be the same with the 15 Pro in 1-2 years.

I have all my products set to optimised.

Launch day 15 pro 256gb 117 cycles 100% health

TBH I upgraded from an iPhone 11 Pro that was also a launch day phone and it was still on 92% when I sold it 4 years old.

My Apple Watch 8 isnt quite as good, purchased May 2023 96% but I do wear it all day all night and fast charge it to allow this inevitably it gets down quite low by the time I

Also my M1 MacBook Air 8/8 16gb 1tb has been pretty poor too 250 cycles and the battery health is 82% purchase date was February 2021. 3 years in the battery life is really no where near as good and at 82% will need a replacement pretty soon, if its even financially viable to do so now. Its a secondary machine for me too.

TBH the 100% thing is a lie anyway it's just a visual cue. As the battery gets older its capacity lowers and the more you try to keep it full the faster it will decay.

So thats what kills the battery, the level to energy to get it from 80-100 is similar to 0-80 and the level of heat it produces also helps to decay the battery. If you rarely see it below 20% then I wouldn't be worried about having it at 100%.

Even with my iPhone 11 Pro I never worried. When I first got it I could get 2 days out of it.

My wife's 13 pro is in a similar position but down to 83% and she has already had "This iPhone has experienced an unexpected shutdown because the battery was unable to deliver the necessary peak power."

Not much you can do but have it replaced at that point.

I find it increasingly harder to actually charge past 80% anyway. I’ve switched off charging optimisation but even with the feature turned off, charging STILL regularly cuts out at 80%…

Nothing new to me. iPhone 12 here with 3 years and 3 month of age, way over 1.000 cycles and 85% battery health.
No 80% limit charging feature or battery improvements and still going strong. Battery also stayed at 100% for almost a year.
