Samsung's blunder is Apple's chance to steal some customers back... hope they make good on it and free up any supply issues.

"Samsung claims its own data shows a much higher retention rate and says about 90 percent of Note 7 owners had chosen to get a direct replacement"

Not only that! They also bought a spare one, just in case!
Were the other 10% reduced to ashes?

Man, losing over 60% of sales in the worst case is just devastating. I actually feel bad for them. Samsung the company may be scummy in their mobile division but lots of people are losing jobs over this and I'm sure Korea will be taking an economic hit with their exchange.

Samsung only has itself to blame but the collateral employees are innocent bystanders.

So apple screwing over suppliers trying to reduce their orders for parts earlier on has come back to bite them? I hope so they deal with suppliers so badly. I love the products but apple is a stinky company right now.

You make my head hurt.
That post shows gross lack of understanding of the most basic economic concepts.

Largest being: economies of scale.
The more you manufacture of something, the cheaper it becomes per unit... this is why Apple enjoys using an identical component across iPhone, iPad, & AppleTV for example.
Thus, if Apple truly believes that they won't need as much components as they did in a previous year... it in no way could "screw over suppliers". Indeed, they'd be the ones getting "screwed over" (to borrow your technical term), because they couldn't demand cheaper prices per unit, due to the enormity of their order.

Is any of this tracking with you??

I don't believe any of these reports. Let's see what the actual numbers are in the quarterly earnings call next month. That's the only report that matters.

Always was. Great products, BS attitude.

You have no clue about the Apple supply chain business outside of tidbits you hear on the internet and take as gospel. How about just worry about stuff that pertains to you like the product in your hands? Don't comment about supply chains and logistics because there is a reason you are at home on a forum while Tim Cook is running a billion dollar business.

KGI is usually accurate on products, but their accuracy on sales is spotty at best.

The Note 7 story is far from hyperbole limited to MacRumors. That's a ridiculous claim. The exploding battery story is everywhere all the time right now.

And Apple does not just order parts to calm the rumor mill down. They are supply chain masters and only order parts when they need to order parts.

As I've said I've only seen this Note 7 story on here...

Then you're blind. There has been a highly publicized recall, airports are flashing signs everywhere about powering them down and not bringing them on planes, nobody will ship them for fear of fires, and even the replacement units are now injuring people: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/09/new-galaxy-note-7-explodes-china/

The Note 7, though it was reviewed well, is probably going to go down in history as one of the worst manufactured phones in history. If you haven't seen this in the news, you're living under a rock.

I wouldn't waste too much time on the poster, his claims seem to be far fetched.

Walked into an AT&T store and ordered a Black AT&T iPhone 7 Plus 256 last Thursday. I was give October 20-27 as expected ship date. Yesterday I got a shipping notification from AT&T, 2nd day air from TEXAS. Todays tracking say delivery by October 3rd end of day. So, my order, was a 29+ days to ship only took 7. Sweet, should have it, according to the tracking, no later than Monday. Wonder if they will try to deliver it tomorrow (that would be the 2nd day). That was Quick getting these phones made.
