just googled

iphone 16 pro max production cost in india around 490 USD

i wonder what the production cost is for these machines and how much money you pay as a consumer to buy these new machine’s and eventually when you do trade in

According to the link I can get $165 off by trading in my 2018 Mac Mini
I was planning on keeping it as a back up in case I have to bring in the new Mini I was going to buy, but this is tempting.

Am I understanding this right? So if you bought a $10K Mac Pro, the most you can trade it in for is $720? There's no way...
Yes since apple is doing nothing with it I guess? They recycle maybe… I don’t know.

These trade-in values fluctuate all the time, and the responses here are always the same.
There are other places to trade in or sell your Mac’s, you have options.
It’s the convenience factor that lets people trade in with Apple.

Imagine buying a tricked out Macbook Pro and only getting 10c on the $ if you trade it in a year later!

Ok, I get it is totally voluntary, but it is insulting how little Apple will offer on their well specced trade ins.

They seem to model this practise on entry level specs and ignore any BTO added value…… of course if the model then ends up back on the refurb store shelf, I’m guessing they won’t be passing the bargain price onto the next purchaser! That wound’t do would it! Lol

Those values say “up to”. Which in reality means much less.

Like anything else, condition matters. I have traded a couple of devices, in store, and never gotten less than the advertised price. Last one was my 2017 dumpster fire MBP.

They are not top dollar offers, by any stretch, but I will take the convenience of not getting scammed or killed in a private sale.

I take this as a sign they are trying to increase Mac sales. I for one am about a year later than usual on my upgrade cycle because the original 14" M1 is still speeding along. I can't be the only one.

Apple is usually pretty competitive on trade-in value. It's a ton of hassle to re-sell these days. eBay has gotten *horrible*. I've been re-selling my used gear for 22 years, and I've finally stopped. Too many people are trying to abuse the system and it becomes an expensive headache to fight those battles. Alternatively, you have the risk of meeting someone for an in person pickup, which may net you $100-$200 more than Apple would give for the trade in. Simply not worth the hassle.

Oh yeah. Top of the line flawless stainless steel series 8 has the exact same trade in value as a “gently used” Aluminum series 8.
It makes zero sense until you accept Apple retail pricing is a complete scam.

What "scam?" Just do not buy. Apple is not "scamming" you.

Some of us just buy our Macs well configured and use them for seven years or so. No worrying about what trade in values might be except every 7 years, if then. Those who choose short life cycles can waste time playing resell games.
