By this response, or lack of one, I guess you don't have an explanation.

Tesla has a very large market cap compared to other auto makers and dealership groups yet they aren't known for giving very good trade-in values. Again, why should a company's large market cap translate to them having to pay higher trade-in values?

This. People forget this is a hassle free return to manufacturer sale. No dealing with people haggling over the phone, not showing up to purchase, failed bank transfers, showing up without the cash required, etc.

If you value your time, those things are worth taking a $ hit to avoid.

Yes, part of the benefit is the convenience. As with other things, you can typically do better selling an item on your own versus trading but not everyone wants the hassle. That's why a lot of people still trade-in devices, cars, etc. even though they are well aware they could try to sell for more on their own. Apple gives the OPTION to trade but customers certainly aren't required to.

No, you're just one of those people that's not worth anyone's time.

Keep cheerleading for Apple if it makes you happy.

MacBook Pro up to $775... 🤣
This is a joke, tbh. I decided to make the leap to M1 in part because they offered me a great trade-in price for my 16" i9.

Back to the private resale routine, I guess. It's actually always been the smarter way to go—I only took the trade-in route last time for convenience (and the price was good enough not to be a serious deterrent).

I just traded in my 2018 13" a couple weeks ago. The keyboard was starting to act up again so I dumped the thing on Apple rather than have to deal with someone buying it and it coming back to me with problems. At the time Apple paid $300; the trade in value had been as low as $280 and it's currently now up to $325. Equivalent, functional machines were selling on eBay in the $450 range, so after deducting the various fees out of it, and allowing for the hassle-free trade, $300 seemed more than fair in this case.

Nope, I’m waiting until the 15 to sell my 12 Pm..
Omg I couldn’t sleep at night worrying about this. Thank you for telling us. Now I can go to bed knowing that you will wait.

Now if the iPhone 15 is a disappointment will u upgrade?

I may and give my 12 pro to the wife.

Is they considered a sloppy second?

This was not about "cheerleading" for Apple. I have been critical of some of Apple’s business practices several times on here. I had a very straightforward question... why should a company's (ANY company's) large market cap translate to them having to pay higher trade-in values?

What are you going to suggest next, Apple should be selling iPhones or other devices for a fraction of current prices because of the company's large market cap?

But recent high inflation hasn't hit most new iPhone retail prices. For example, a 64GB iPhone 11 Pro in 2019 was $999 which is the same price as a larger storage (128GB) iPhone 14 Pro today.

Some prices have actually dropped. For example, a 512GB iPhone 11 Pro in 2019 was $1,349 while a 512GB iPhone 14 Pro is $50 less today at $1,299.

if Apple had been notably raising new iPhone prices, you'd see a stronger used/resale market.

Yeah but the 11 included the 18W adapter. All iPhones got cheaper after they excluded an adapter.

Just a note for some of you who don't see it in your own countries.... these prices are more about what the used market sells for than what Apple makes from trade-ins. Many other countries have a huge resale market, and THEY can, at times, actually drive what Apple will allow for a trade. The used market value of an IPhone 13 (various models) is still a great deal higher than even these adjusted prices. People are only losing $100 on it after a full year or more of use. That's pretty amazing. As Apple prices inch up, people are looking for any way they can to save a buck (and the 14 isn't viewed as a big improvement over the 13 models). Overseas people also lose out on, or have no use for some of the 14's touted benefits (satellite calling, for example).

They did stop including a charger which was a small savings for Apple but even factoring that in, iPhones have gotten cheaper when adjusting for inflation. For example, a 64GB iPhone 11 Pro was $999 in 2019 which in today's dollars is around $1,175. A larger storage (128GB) iPhone 14 Pro is $999. The previously included charger didn't/doesn't cost anywhere near $176.

That is undeniably true!

Pssssh

  • Phone 13‌ mini: Up to $330 (vs. $350)
  • iPhone 12 mini: Up to $220 (vs. $250)
Lol nice try Apple! Not foolin nobody wit dis.

Who is Apple trying to fool? Apple didn't say they increased select trade-in values. It's MacRumors which framed it that way.

As always, customers can choose to trade with Apple or sell their device elsewhere.

my intention was lost in translation I think ... my post "Lol nice try Apple! Not foolin nobody wit dis."
was to mean nice try Apple I have a great phone top spec for this modal and many of us mini users will not trade in at a lesser value - considering no direct upgrade for the size is available. Its all in the perspective ;)

Cheers
