Apple won an auction for an as-of-yet untitled spy romance film set in Africa that will star Idris Elba, reports Variety.

There was an "intense bidding war" for the title, which is being produced by Elba and Simon Kinberg. The script for the film was written by Travon Free, known for "Black Monday" and "The Daily Show."

Aside from being known as a spy film with romance, there are no other details known on the title at this time.

Idris Elba has signed a "first look" deal with Apple, which will see him producing TV shows and movies for the Apple TV+ streaming service. Simon Kinberg is working on a high-budget, ambitious sci-fi series for Apple.

Good move. Instead of making him the next James Bond, which would be disastrous for the character, create a new one with him as the lead. I like Idris, I just don't want to mess with the race, gender or sexual orientation of James Bond.

I'm not sure why the race of James Bond is at all important. I do agree that changing the other things you mention would make for an entirely different character; especially for the film character, who is notoriously a "playa". But the original James Bond character was rooted in the 1950s and 1960s; and he has been updated greatly over time to make him more contemporary. If a new Bond film is going to be a period piece set in 1960, then fine; keep him as Fleming envisioned. But if the film is set in 2020, there's no reason for Bond not to be a contemporary character as well. Is there something intrinsic to the current version of the Bond film character that makes him specifically White?

I’ve had Apple TV+ for about a month now and so far everything I’ve watched has been good.

But I won’t be paying when my trial is up based on the pure hell that is having to go through the Apple TV app and their painfully muddled Up Next queue.

Really, can they make it any harder to watch stuff?

Apple signing a lot of deals but these projects would be 3 years away. (Factoring no filiming due to COVID)
Can AppleTV+ last that long with the current lineup?

Get in line, pal.

definitely underrated. His talent and personality comes through naturally in his roles. I’m great full his personality and creativity isn’t so shallow to be 1 track like N. Cage.

They're doing better than Disney+ and Hulu. How Netflix is still pushing out new content I don't know, almost like they had a stash of content for stuff like this.
