Apple has inked a first-look deal with Ridley Scott and his Scott Free Productions company, reports Variety. Under the terms of the deal, Scott Free will create TV shows for Apple TV+.

The Scott Free production company has produced successful films and TV series that include "Top Gun," "Alien," "Black Hawk Down," "The Martian," "The Good Wife," "Man in the High Castle," and "The Terror." Scott also directed Apple's famous "1984" ad.

Apple has signed similar Apple TV+ deals with A24, Sesame Workshops, and Peanuts, and has established multi-year production contracts with high-profile content creators that include Alfonso Cuaron, Jason Katims, Lee Eisenberg, Oprah Winfrey, Justin Lin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and more.

Apple TV+ offers up original movies and TV shows for $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year, plus there's a free year of service for those who have recently purchased an Apple device. For those who don't qualify for the free year, Apple offers a one-week free trial.

Check out our step-by-step instructions for getting up and running from various devices.

I am nitpicking here, but Scott Free was formed in 1995 -- it had nothing to do with "Alien" (1979) or "Top Gun" (1986).
Martian, Gladiator, Hannibal, The Man in the High Castle though. They have made a prolific number of incredible movies even since 1995. And, the point is, you're locking up Ridley Scott to a first look deal. He is the brains behind Scott Free, obv.

Ridleys brother Tony Scott of TG fame has been in the production/direction loop along with Ridley and nephew Jake for years now so all in the family is a huge Win for Apple even if you are nitpicking.
Tony Scott passed away in 2012, FWIW. Scott Free is basically Ridley and Jake. They are a good production company with a lot of hits under their belt -- I was just pointing out that Scott Free had nothing to do with "Alien" or "Top Gun".

Really excited about the upcoming content for Apple TV+. Just wish they'd hurry up with it. Love the idea of Apple TV+ as a higher quality version of Netflix. I'm completely bored with Netflix these days. Too much filler material.

Some of us need to pump the brakes on our enthusiasm here. First, it seems some are confused about first look deal is. First look means Apple gets to look at and possibly acquire the rights to Scott's projects before others do. First look is not a guarantee of quality (I hate the way that term is used regarding this topic. What's quality?). Nor is it a guarantee of a successful project. Scott will no doubt have content on offer from multiple genres. Apple could choose the next Robin Hood (the Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe bomb) and pass over the next Gladiator (the Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe blockbuster)

Apple having first choice of projects is nice, but it's not as earth shattering as some seem to think. Hollywood is a fickle business. Having first choice simply means having the first chance to make a wrong decision.

Yes, but having first dibs at whatever Ridley Scott puts out is incredible nonetheless. I think Apple has shown that they are excellent judges of quality based on their limited output so far. Van Amburg and Erlicht, plus Plepler from HBO are doing incredible work for Apple.

Excellent judges of quality? Based on what? Some of the shows on ATV+ are good, but there's nothing that is standout as a cut above, or quality. It's standard fare. There's an analog to almost every show on ATV+ being streamed on almost every other service. That's not a knock against Apple's content. It's a commentary on content in general. It's generally all the same. Apple is pulling from the same content pool as everyone else.

Having first dibs is nice. It's not incredible... that's a bit too hyperbolic. First look deals are all over Hollywood. There are first look deals for content, producers, directors, actors. For instance, Jordan Peele has two first look deals. One with Universal for his movie projects and one with Amazon for his television projects. His situation is not unique.

Unless I am mistaken Tony Scott sadly committed suicide some years ago.

Home Before Dark, The Morning Show, Servant, and For All Mankind have been a cut above the TV i see on other services. For me, they hearken back to classic Game of Thrones and first season of Westworld in terms of quality.

It is nice to see their new deal.

Prior, Scott Free Productions had produced the documentary, Clive Davis:The Soundtrack of our Lives.

It was an Apple exclusive prior to being picked up by Netflix. check it out. it is great.

No but two of its founders, now one obviously deceased, did direct those films; hence the tie in. You might as well say Peter Gabriel had nothing to do with Genesis because Peter Gabriel is post Genesis solo projects only.

I had never even heard of that documentary. Too bad Apple gave it up for Netflix. If it were on TV+ I would have given it a shot.

Really? I guess everyone see the shows differently. All of it was good, but none of it was memorable. There hasn't been any buzz about any of the shows beyond their initial introduction. That buzz was about the stars, not the actual shows. They aren't part of the general conversation. Definitely not on the level of a GoT or even Westworld. Anyway, that's all besides the point. We shouldn't be getting overly excited for a first look deal since it is a common practice in the entertainment industry.

Finally Prometheus 2, an Apple TV+ exclusive :p

Ridley Scott should not be let back anywhere near the Alien franchise EVER...while I liked the themes explored by Prometheus, Ridley squandered them by reducing the scope so drastically in Alien: Covenant that we are unlikely to ever see a resolution or even a decent exploration.

Sometimes the mystery (Space Jockey origins) should be left a mystery.
