This is HUGE!! I cannot wait to see what Apple does with Ridley Scott! Hoping for some more quality sci-fi shows like For All Mankind!

Up until the shut down I was working on an AppleTV+ show. Without going into detail, it's quality and sci-fi. As time went on they were putting more everything into the production, which in my experience is rare and a good sign of other content yet to be made.

Has there ever been any film director with more than four or five good/great films in them. It's been a long time since Ridley Scott was at the height of his creative powers.

Any entertainment company is now judged on how anti-Trump-deranged they became since 2016. Their past matters not. We shall see how far down the Globalist, identity politics rabbit-hole they have gone. Hopefully they will have kept their creative common-sense brains in tact.

I would have *liked* Prometheus 2, it was Alien: Covenant that I wasn’t happy with! I wanted to see the main woman’s story of going to meet the Engineers, instead we got... well to be honest I’ve completely forgotten whatever nonsense that story tried to tell me.
How David created the Xenomorphs...which I thought I wanted to see onscreen again until I watched The Crossing, which rekindled my interest in the Engineers, the Black Goo, the Deacon and Paradise. Shame the whole story probably wont ever be told.

Tony Scott passed away in 2012, FWIW. Scott Free is basically Ridley and Jake. They are a good production company with a lot of hits under their belt -- I was just pointing out that Scott Free had nothing to do with "Alien" or "Top Gun".

Having been in the entertainment business for over 30 years i am well aware of the passing of Tony. I was just pointing out that your nitpicking was vapid. I'm guessing that you find water too wet and the sky too blue on nice days as well.

Unless I am mistaken Tony Scott sadly committed suicide some years ago.

Sadly yes.

Really excited about the upcoming content for Apple TV+. Just wish they'd hurry up with it. Love the idea of Apple TV+ as a higher quality version of Netflix. I'm completely bored with Netflix these days. Too much filler material.
Apple is quickly becoming the Disney of streaming and may ironically even surpass Disney itself someday. Every Apple TV + show (whether I liked it or not) has a production value level and core message beyond Netflix, Amazon and Hulu’s streaming shows. I like all of those too but only for certain specific shows. They are more like flea markets where you find some great hidden gems. But Apple and Disney are like a world class department store and have brand power that people trust and you know what to expect. This is a long game Apple is playing and they will win even if it takes a decade.

Really? I guess everyone see the shows differently. All of it was good, but none of it was memorable. There hasn't been any buzz about any of the shows beyond their initial introduction. That buzz was about the stars, not the actual shows. They aren't part of the general conversation. Definitely not on the level of a GoT or even Westworld. Anyway, that's all besides the point. We shouldn't be getting overly excited for a first look deal since it is a common practice in the entertainment industry.
If you asked what anyone thought of Game of Thrones and Westworld after their first seasons they would also say there was nothing memorable. Even hit shows like Breaking Bad take several seasons to ramp up and become cultural touchstones. It might take another few years and a dozen more new shows but Apple will eventually score a major hit. They already have a better hit ratio than Netflix and it’s only their first year.

Not many besides Spielberg but most directors also take to producing in the later stages of their careers. Directing is for the young trying to make a name for themselves. The real power has always been the producing which is all I expect Ridley Scott to do for Apple.

Just wondering how you leave Bladerunner of that list?
I mean the article could have been one sentence...“The dude who made Bladerunner just signed with Apple TV”. 😬😜

Totally agree. The Engineer story was far more interesting, but apparently the studio (Fox) wanted a xenomorph film, aka a monster film. I hope Ridley makes a third movie to bridge the gap to the original Alien and I hope there is much more on the engineers. Would be really cool to see Apple produce that film, or maybe an offshoot show on AppleTV+ about the Engineers.

Absolutely ^^this^^
I didn’t hate Covenant, but I loved Prometheus and was crushed the scrapped a true sequel (I don’t know why folks hated that movie.)
Anyhoo, I love me some Ridley Scott (well, like 97.333% of the time.)
I honestly wouldn’t mind a limited-run series about the “Alien” universe done in Game Of Thrones, Daredevil, or Witcher quality.

Disney owns those properties now (Alien and Prometheus), so make of it what you will. I doubt you’ll see anything either unless someone comes up with a REALLY compelling take to either expand the stories or resolve them satisfyingly. I was disappointed with Prometheus until I saw Alien Covenant: The Crossing, and suddenly things became very interesting again. And then Covenant totally threw it in the bin. Oh, well...

Black Hawk Down. Also referred to as the day of the Rangers by the Somalis.

Rangers Lead The Way. Hooh!

Ridley Scott should not be let back anywhere near the Alien franchise EVER...while I liked the themes explored by Prometheus, Ridley squandered them by reducing the scope so drastically in Alien: Covenant that we are unlikely to ever see a resolution or even a decent exploration.

Sometimes the mystery (Space Jockey origins) should be left a mystery.

The part about ‘we are unlikely ever to see ...’ is in large part because of “we” : the fans.

too many of these kiddies with limited attention span or concept of understanding of building character, mood or set complained about Prometheus and couldn’t understand the questions posed for us the viewers to pontificate on. This Ridley changed the script that was planned for Covenant.

maybe a very fresh idea about humans and aliens like Spielberg’s mid 90’s show with Dakota Fanning is what we’ll see. Or something unexpected.

More insight ... prologue script (narration voice and cadence is odd but the findings are very well done).
