Does this mean we'll be able to finally delete stock apps? Every other phone/tablet OS seems to have this ability to one extent or another.

Would be fun if you could delete the App Store (on your friend's phone) :D

I'm guessing that would be one of the few you couldn't delete (like on my Windows Phone), but I managed it once when I got my hands on my friends Nexus phone. He raged at me for some time over it. :D

A precursor to being able to delete stock apps?

I was (wishfully) thinking the same thing. But I think the posters above hit the nail on the head; this is prob a precurser to individual stock app updates (without an entire OS update) as well as putting the stock options out there for a casual user about to download a competitor.

Apple should be more Google like in terms of updating individual native apps on the regular. Waiting a year just to add features is just bizarre.

The results attempt to steer users searching for apps related to certain topics toward Apple's built-in offerings, perhaps reminding users that their needs may already be met without needing to resort to App Store apps.

If all they're trying to do is look out for users, then they should remove the Podcasts app from the search results all together. :p

Spread the word about: pleasefixtheappstore.com

After acquiring "Chomp" last year, the App Store search became worse and worse. While we did not have this one on the radar, when we did start a petition last week addressing crucial issues at

At the moment you can't even release an update anymore without loosing all reviews displayed.

33 developers already submitted similar bug reports -pls spread the word!

Yeah - its not a bad idea but I suspect that some of the dev teams that are working on or selling similar apps arent too thrilled about it. Right?

Yeah, probably about as thrilled as they are that any competing app is on the app store... this is no different... Now Apple is a competitor also.. oh wait they already were...

And besides, if they are developing an app similar to a built in app they should already know they have competition to struggle with.

This isn't good for developers like myself. If these apps are installed by default why waste this valuable search result.

Apple should update it's stock apps through the app store rather than only updating them with iOS. Each iOS update would bump them to the latest version at the time of install, but regular updates could be done through the app store.

This is exactly what google does with Android.

----------

I know several people who installed some shady-looking "browsers" (web views with ads at the bottom) because they didn't know that the iPhone could "do Google" out of the box. I think this will be helpful.

I'm guessing people like that have trouble walking and breathing at the same time.

Could it be a way to decouple stock apps from iOS and push updates for them individually?

I mean, if now there's an update for Safari, one needs to go through an iOS update instead of a regular app update, right?

This is a good move. Many phone users arent that savvy about apps and may easily buy one reading its sales rubbiah thinking its so much better than Apples own then afrer spending X amount realise it does same but updated less

Does it mean we'll be able to delete stock apps and get them back through the App Store in upcoming iOS 7.1 or 8 ?
