Apple has officially joined Instagram.

The company opened the followable account @Apple today that will exclusively feature curated photos and videos from iPhone users around the world, according to Mashable. The report said Apple won't share any ads or marketing on the account, which has already quickly amassed thousands of followers.

Apple's presence on Instagram had been limited to ads, without a followable account, and an @AppleMusic account. Apple has traditionally shied away from social networks, with blank accounts on Facebook and Twitter that, for now, exist to serve ads. The company also runs @AppleSupport on Twitter.

Apple tells Instagram followers to use the hashtag #ShotoniPhone for a chance to have their photos and videos shared in one of the galleries.

I never get a photo to turn out like they share at events.

The 'a' in apple is in lower case reminds of their old logo

Let's hope this is not a fateful premonition of the forthcoming iPhone 8. A Lemon? Surely not! Oh sorry. It's a Melon. THIS is what they want! 'Proper' water melon photos. Not puny ones like Samsung would do. That's if they wasted time on pointless ventures like this one. Yeah. And if they did they'd all be out of focus and that. Not like this Apple water melon photo - that's all sharp and that. Yeah. Probably.

Great timing - not that any of mine would be chosen anyway - I've been posting a number of photos taken on my iPhone 3GS lately and some actually aren't all that bad but I doubt they'd feature any taken on such old models as it's not exactly high quality and wouldn't reflect as well on the brand. But it is funny seeing photos taken with an 8 year old iPhone show up online still. It's my secondary phone after all so I still take quite a few with it.

At least it won't be full of marketing material like a few other pages I was following...

I'm at working reading this and just busted out laughing at the watermelon shot.

If your willing to put the effort in you could some up with a pretty cool series of photos with the right lighting on a iPhone(you could do it with any phone). They already shown what a old school iPhone 3gs could do with studio lighting and a model.

How the hell did someone get that watermelon shot? If I did that the water would just be a huge blur. Almost every photo I take something is blurry - someone's hand, something, even if things are barely moving.

You need good light conditions (much light!) and preferably an app that lets you set high shutter speeds. The camera in the iPhone can do pretty well if you're willing to handle and learn fundamental camera settings (...and light!). :)

I'm still surprised the @Apple Twitter account still hasn't tweeted anything yet since 2011. Let's hope they don't follow that trend on their Instagram page :p

i think all their tweets are "promoted" tweets that are not on their timeline.
