a watermelon.

how inspiring

You have to see beyond the watermelon. It's the fact with the scene of the watermelon with the impact in the water, which is resulting in a splash caught on camera in an instant. I find it interesting.

I never get a photo to turn out like they share at events.

Take it at good light conditions and use a tripod and timer shutter release to get zero camera shake and learn basic photography composition theory and you get closer

I've always been a believer from the beginning that and their photos are heavily accessorized with other photography tools for the shot. not a simple point, click and upload as they make it seem.

Shot on iPhone. Editing and comping in Photoshop.

A company worth 813 billion is trash? Really?
Exxon was...

Apple probably had better imagination, company ethics and innovation compared to other companies when it was worth less than 10 billion.

It's amazing that Apple spending enough on marketing is able to convince so many people that taking decent snapshots in ideal conditions is all you need.

No optical zoom, no low light performance, horrible resolving ability of the lens, but just look at these carefully curated photos that under ideal conditions that show what a magnificent camera it is. And the sheeple eat it up.

Trash company now at 816 billion.

And Exxon was trash because they didn't have a twitter account and Shell Oil did?

This marketing stunt should be pretty cheap. ;) And many people don't want or need more than their phone.

So!? What do you suggest? Apple highlighting all the benefits a pro-dslr has over the iPhone? Jeez... And besides, you see lots of crappy photos from those as well. But you won't see Canon, Nikon or Sony running around showing them off. :D

So Apple is copying One Plus marketing campaign now? Is there anything original Apple does these days? It would be nice, eventually, to see Apple do something first again for a change.

How about focus on making a first rate phone instead of a fourth rate camera with more spent on marketing than on the camera itself? How about update their archaic web browser rather than add more iMessage toys. Then again seeing the disaster they created for the mac version of Safari, maybe it's better that they don't update Safari. Mac Safari is unusable garbage.

The iPhone 7 in voice calling sounds like **** compared to the 3gs or 4. But when's the last time you heard Apple brag about sound quality. My landline is worlds better in sound quality than the iPhone, and it doesn't have to be that way except Apple shaves a few pennies on the cellular module. The reviewers don't even seem to test the voice feature anymore anyway.

It should be obvious to even an untrained eye that if $1 billion appears in a few seconds it's speculators overpricing stocks and just piling in. Read the trades daily. They have been talking about how everyone is riding this ridiculous wave of overvaluations. There's nothing to stop those numbers rising until another subprime crash occurs.

Don't think it's not going to happen. The housing market has seen high risk players return and the whole US car sales business has borrowed the sub-prime model.

These corporations should gradually buy back a large quantity of stock to calm the market and future shocks.

Safari on Mac is my favorite browser, unless I need dev tools then it's (obviously) Chrome. Their approach to trying to tame out of control user tracking is very welcome. I can see someone preferring Chrome or Firefox, but can't really understand calling it a disaster. Safari really is faster than Chrome for everyday browsing, in my experience.

iPhone call quality, in my experience has been consistently good. Apple probably doesn't talk about it because it's pretty much out of their hands and all about the cellular chip they buy and the carrier you're on.

Apple's shaving a few pennies on the cell module is probably going to save consumers millions of dollars in reduced royalties to Qualcomm and the beneficial effects will be shared by all phone makers (and buyers thereof), but it took Apple taking the lead on the predatory tactics. If I owned Qualcomm stock, I'd probably feel differently though!

I think the reason no one talks about voice quality is because the differences have become so small. The last phone I used with truly awful call quality was the Galaxy S4 with a basically worthless speakerphone. With HD voice turned on, calls are as crisp as I can ever recall. You still have a slightly larger latency than old landlines, but it's much improved over just a few years ago. Presuming both parties have HD voice available.

It is a magnificent camera. Just because you are not able to make decent photos with one (and perhaps even with other cameras) doesn't mean others are not able to.

Making a compelling photograph is rarely about gear. Rather, it speaks to one's life experiences, curiosity, imagination, eye, understanding of light, composition, and various other skills.

Assume much? I make more than enough money through photography to pay for my professional grade gear. I use the iPhone to take pictures of price stickers at stores, that's about all it's good for.

And even if it were a decent camera, which it isn't, the cumbersome disaster apple has made their iOS and Mac photo app would kill any utility. Memories -- what a great feature except you can't make it skip all those price tag pictures. Everyone takes pics of things like that, signs, their car parking space, a plate of food, etc they don't want in their normal photo view. That Apple doesn't allow for it shows how completely clueless they are.

I would love to see a portfolio of your work!

Please post a link here so I can take a look.

Here's an example I posted here a while ago. The detail view is to show you the sharpness and image quality you get from a real camera, and as this actually was printed for commercial use at 20x30, the IQ is needed.

The iPhone also does not have the dynamic range to give the contrast needed for this kind of image. Her neck and chest still has skin texture that is not blown out, and her eyes and forehead are not lost in shadow. It is not a matter of any tool working for a pro, the lens and sensor in an iPhone cannot capture a photo like this suitable for printing.

How the hell did someone get that watermelon shot? If I did that the water would just be a huge blur. Almost every photo I take something is blurry - someone's hand, something, even if things are barely moving.

Yeah, the shutter speed needs to be pretty high for a shot like that. Must have taken a bunch of tries! A click through to the actual post shows it's part of a photo series based on a theme.

How do they even get the watermelon shot to focus with iPhone 7's slow autofocus? Must've been one lucky shot from thousands of tries.

If the scene is lit brightly enough, the shutter speed will be fast enough to freeze the motion of the water.
