Apple has seemingly had one of its most useful AI tools blocked from Meta's apps. Writing Tools, which is an Apple Intelligence feature, is not available to use in Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger.

Apple's Writing Tools include options to proofread, rewrite, and summarize text almost anywhere you can type in iOS 18. A long press in a text input field usually brings up the feature, but not in any of Meta's apps currently.

Brazilian blog Sorcererhat Tech spotted the lack of Writing Tools across Meta's apps, which appears to have been the case since late last year. Developers can choose whether to allow the tools in their apps, so it looks as if Meta has declined the offer.

According to a Wall Street Journal report from June 2024, Apple held discussions with Meta about integrating the Facebook owner's AI model into iOS 18 as part of its Apple Intelligence feature set. However, Apple turned down the AI partnership due to privacy concerns. Apple instead ended up signing a deal with OpenAI to include optional ChatGPT access in its Siri responses.

Given the history of acrimony between the two companies – from Apple device interoperability demands to App Store feuds – it's not all that surprising that Meta would choose to keep Apple's AI out of its apps. Meta has also since rolled out its own AI features across its platforms.

I don’t use Meta except for WhatsApp. Apple Intelligence has been very useful to me when I write in English (I’m French). The correction tool helps a lot. Other than that, I get now why it gets so much hate; it’s crazy how bad it can be, especially on Mac. Completely half-baked. I thought people were exaggerating, but yeah, it’s actually shameful for Apple…

I think people see themselves as intelligent if they use ChatGPT and enjoying making communication and things difficult for general people.
So today I see people as intelligent when they show high EQ rather then pretending having high IQ.

Have nothing against Apple Intelligence, but I not prefer using anything Siri.
I may rather start to use ChaGPT more in addition to another service I use.

This follows Meta's trend of trying to force people to use the Meta software without the system's tools.

This happens on Facebook, in a browser. Used to be you could use all the typical Mac keyboard and menu functions to work on a post... but now you can't. Just try selecting some text in your message and dragging that text... no go (at least for me in my browsers.)

I don't use Facebook much anymore for other reasons, but the awkwardness of the interface on a computer browser contributes to my disdain for it.

As a native Englishman (who speaks quite fluent French and loves French culture, particularly your House music scene), you write in English very well! I've read posts that are less grammatically-correct than yours from native speakers.

I know if I was back in school studying my French A-Levels, I'd definitely be using AI/Apple Intelligence and Translate to help me out! We had Google Translate back in the day but teachers could always tell.

It’s worse than Apple Maps. Both of those failures have the same common denominator, Tim Cook

Complete corruption on the part of Meta. Looking forward to the bankruptcy proceedings for Meta.

I stopped using Facebook due to all of the hate that was allowed to exist on the platform many years ago. No longer see a need for “social networking”.

It was news to me. I didn't know app developers could choose to block/hide Apple Intelligence in their apps. I thought it was system-wide integration. I don't use their apps, so I had no idea. 🤷‍♀️

I'm sure they'd rather steer you into using their privacy-invasive AI tools instead of Apple Intelligence, so not totally surprising.
Facebook is pulling a Google.

You cannot believe all the lies that ChatGPT says. It is funny that people do not understand that Artificial Intelligence does not understand anything that it produces.
