Why are people so obsessed with installing AI as it currently stands? It’s junk (see attached)

Because if you use it as intended, not to make a point, it works incredibly well and can save you hours of time.
Oh I see now. It’s about saving time. The result is immaterial. Thank you so much.

I’m critical of AI and how it can be best used. But come on, you are clearly demonstrating that you haven’t got a clue on how to get most out of it. And that is why it’s not for the uninitiated and why the AI act had to come in.

Honestly, all of that just reinforces why this is nowhere near a normal consumer product right now.

As an aside, anecdotally, I spent the evening with a group of folks and none of them are using AI for anything in their jobs or any of the Apple intelligence stuff on their devices.

When I brought it up, it was almost like we were talking about an old friend from the past or something.. lol

Obviously, there’s a lot of other stuff going on right now, but it seems like for this group of normal lawyers, doctors and a few tech workers, it occupies very little of their mind share right now.

That also tracks with my experience. However, I would caution against assuming that means AI isn’t a thing (not suggesting you’re saying that, to be clear), but rather it’s still in early adopter territory.

I maintain that it's wildly over discussed in the media given what it's actually doing and being used for.

I don't really know what it's being used for that's great or where it truly falls apart.

It's really hard to separate signal from noise here as the tech industry and so many "covering it" (being generous) are just fully captured by hyping for valuations, press, attention and to keep funding channels rolling. Also, so many want to pretend and market that "they are it!" .. "they are winning!" ... so many are focused on the first mover advantage they think will take hold here.

I have a close friend who manages a large fund that has various investments in AI and hearing him talk about it scares me, just due to the buzzwords and lack of any true understanding ... and they are putting real, large sums of actual money into it.

It's so bizarre.

Then again, after watching all the crypto and NFT hype cycles in the past ... and seeing things like the celebrity fight between Blake & Baldoni and all the nefarious dark corners of marketing that have shaped that ...

It really does make one question what is hype, what is BS, what is being fed to me with someones specific goals in mind, etc.

Yes. I should not have expected a competent reliable answer and I should not expect it to correct me. But if, for example, I was in government and wanted an individual deported quickly, regardless of facts, it could save me a load of precious time. I can see how that would be useful. Move fast and break stuff? AI can help.

Huh!?

Well actually it can be very useful in such areas where a lot is already codified. So for professionals trained in that, and knowing what they want and what to look for it can be a huge timesaver. I'm catching it out on things that are wrong, or made up, to me its like an apprentice. They can be incredibly useful and way smarter than me, but you got to spend time and energy in it to make them useful. You got to communicate.

It is is definitely not a personal assistant or secret used to make your look smarter. When using it like that, it will come back and bite you.
