I find it funny they are expanding AI to so many languages, but won’t start on my systems because I have Siri set to English (Irish).
Not that I’m complaining, any level of block I can use to keep that s*** from landing on my devices is good by me. It strikes me as funny though that it will support, Japanese, but not English with a bit of an accent.

Time has changed. Their AI didn't work out as a major selling point so it also lost it's use as an angle for blackmail.
Actually, according to Apple's earning results, it is a major selling point.

The US is one of these countries that already have Apple Intelligence. I dare to say it has nothing to do with AI and more with the fact that Apple is a local company + my understanding is that the US has a lot of deals where you can upgrade every year

Das wurde aber auch verdammt nochmal Zeit !

"Hell its about time"

That's the interesting thing about translations, idiomatic phrasing.

I'd translate it :
About damn time

My favorite is when someone clearly isn't conversant in the language being translated but is doing literal translations:

But that was also damn again time.

Watching subtitled movies can get really annoying because unless the translator understands the context and slang you wind up with gibberish; and even native speakers have trouble with regional idioms or dialect.

For example, try explain 'bad' to someone not familiar with it.

Now, if Apple AI could just recognize patterns in texts and could block certain ones my spam would go down from folks faking the from number to avoid number blocks.

and of course, Switzerland will be left out. Because.

Well, I'd say it is because noone can understand what you are saying ;)
I've studied German for 9 years but Schwiizertüütsch 🤯

And yet I still can't use other features like Visual Look Up outside of the US. While in my third world country it won't show no matter what but just by landing in the US it shows without having to change any setting or language on my iPhone.

I had a professor from Switzerland who once spent the first five minutes of one of our German classes speaking entirely in Schweizerdeutsch. The entire class was fluent in German, but might as well have been fluent in Dutch for those five minutes - no one had any idea what he was saying 😂

Off topic, but this is SO annoying. I get angry at certain shows and movies with how bad the translations are. (Only thing that's worse - having two characters from another country speaking to each other in English with an accent - I'd rather have bad subtitles than that).

On the other hand, when they do it properly it's great. Recently watched the new Day of the Jackal show - it has a lot of scenes in German and the subtitles were perfekt. Not literally translated; it was clear care had gone into them.

Heck, even the Swiss can't understand each other. When I worked in Zurich it took me a while to understand the local dialect, and when I spoke in Wienerish with friends no one understood us.

Which is a challenge for AI translation, a lot of language is dialect and slang, which is hard and often not the same area to area where teh same language is spoken; fanny or torch for example in UK vs US English.

Ya but who cares about Google?
Ye but people would choose to use Google’s AI feature (via app) over Apple intelligence no matter how integrated AI it is for iOS iPadOS and macOS. It’s always a good feeling using your native language for these kind of stuff.
In short, the silent majority cares.

So, how good are the AI features anyway? I thought they got mixed receptions.
They're pretty mediocre at large.

But then the Notification Summary was so faulty that Apple has postponed it globally, I believe.

I doubt anyone will be impressed unless they haven't touched AI before. But, for Apple, I guess it's a start.

No, Switzerland will not be left out. It is already available in Switzerland if you switch to English. With 18.4 you will also be able to use it with German, French and Italian.

Good to hear about it. Definitely expecting to see an increase in the number of people using Apple Intelligence after this. Expecting even more languages to be supported later this year.

I think in Switzerland you already have Apple Intelligence as long as you set Siri to a supported language. If you set Siri to English it should activate Apple Intelligence already.
