I tried to look up their product prices online.

Wow..... they really are premium priced. This TV costs more than my current car D:

Apple wont even put a Blu-ray in its computers so I doubt they will ever manufacture one or by a company that does. Its all about streaming downloads not about 20th century spinning plastic discs.

With bu-ray it's probably Apple can't control the end to end DRM so they don't use the technology. Rather then try to incorporate it into the OS they simply went to digital downloads instead since not only can they control the end to end process but they get a cut of each download as well.

The 'apple tax' is a forum-only expression which is mistakenly used instead of "I wish Apple would take a hit on margins so I could afford to buy it."

There's no such thing because Apple is subject to the laws of economics just like everyone else (yes, Microsoft included). They charge what the market will bear; it's as simple as that.

So basically "apple tax" is BS. Just like those who say Apple's ony successful because of good marketing.

The extra cost for a Apple premium product say a iPad for $499 vs a generic Andriod tablet for $299.

Which generic Android tablet that's anything close to an iPad in terms of build quality, display and overall experience is $299? I see the Transformer Prime and Galaxy Tab for $399. Of course that's not what they were priced at when they first came out.

yes but only for that market in order avoid currency issues and this stupid "buy american act". instead of forcing people to buy something american they should buy the best product. only competition wakes up the local companies.

Oddly enough, BMW exports nearly 2/3rds of it's Spartanburg production. If a German buys an X5 it's probably made in the US, as was the Z3 and first generation Z4. Why? Because, as you said, BMW realized they could get the best product at the best price there instead of Germany. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more built in China and South Africa being exported as well since their production costs are probably lower than in Germany.

It seems strange that Apple would decide to go for a classy tv set, an iPad as a controller and then settle for a clunky, expensive and inefficient cable content.

I think there is more to this story. Great content delivery just begs to be part of this package.

Loewe TVs are really expensive. I very much doubt an Apple TV would be at the cheap end of the market, but I also don't expect it to be at the bling Loewe / B&O type of price either.

Several replies have debunked the rumour, but if it had been true, I suspect this would have been for patents and expertise rather than for a manufacturer they could slap their logo on.

Disagree with the last part. Germany's economy, especially manufacturing, is VERY export oriented for an EU Nation State. I could see China increase a little, but not S. Africa. Brazil before S. Africa IMO.

It's also very difficult to forecast risk currently with the Greek issues. If the EU does come apart (a very real possibility after this weekends events in Greece), Germany will be the only country in decent shape.

This could actually stimulate homeland manufacturing, despite costs. Germany has seen this day coming since the creation of the Euro Zone, and it's Nation States. Let's hope things stay calm. :apple:

I have to agree - Apple, whilst high end, is still looking to the mass market. I can imagine an Apple TV priced against Samsung's top level offerings.

No... the EU will not 'come apart' - the Euro MAYBE (unlikely, still), but not the entire EU.

I can see it now:

An Apple television set that looks almost like a Loewe flat panel TV, but thinner (thanks to a Sharp-built AMOLED panel developed with money from Apple and Foxconn) and with an iSight camera on center top and using a touchscreen controller running off the lastest version of iOS. It'll be available in 42", 46" and 50" sizes.

I'd buy one! iPad/iPhone as a remote control?

they bought this company because that tv you see there is what the apple tv probably looks like, and they didnt want

1. a lawsuit
2. a competitor

Although it hasn't been used for a while my 1936 Leica is still working.

Germany is well known for their high quality engineering and manufacturing, anyone that says different probably don't have any experience of German products.

And no one will be able to afford those Loewe televisions. I've known about this brand for quite a while however I've only seen several in the flesh and that was at a store.

Very expensive! I hope Apple can do something about the price if this is the way they are going to implement the selling of televisions.

i think you mix up quality and reliability. probably right that asian cars don't break often but go to a dealer and test drive a toyota and then an audi/mercedes/bmw. you can feel, smell, see the difference.
To anyone without limitless cash, reliability must be an aspect of quality. To say otherwise is ridiculous. I see I was downvoted pretty heavily for pointing this out before. Probably will again.
This is exciting news if true. I really hope it is. I've owned a Loewe Aconda which at the time was simply the highest quality CRT television in the world. When I needed to get something repaired, they were no longer sold in the US, to my chagrin. I'd love to own another set as nice as that one. Loewe was on their 15th generation digital set when we started getting digital TV in the US, their electronics were way ahead of their rivals.

Do a search for Loewe Invisio concept television and ask yourself....is a transparent television made entirely of glass something that Apple might be willing to bring to market? Heck ya. This thing is insane looking. I hope they do.

Amen.

The first Android tablets were more expensive than the iPad. And the ones that are actually comparable to the iPad in materials are NOT $299.

Update: A Loewe company spokesman told German website Heise (via The Next Web) that the report has "absolutely nothing to it."
Bummer.

Terrible idea. Germans are notorious for the poor quality of the products they manufacture.

What? Not knocking apple or any other American companies, but the Germans are known for manufacturing products of generally higher quality than Americans.
