And Scott Forstall!Bring back Jony Ive.
p.s.
Once Tim Cook has retired, I can totally see either or both of them returning.

I often thought it would have done better with a second USB instead of the headphone jack, but really due to the keyboard stretching to the sides that was the only place they could have put a second one.Funny thing is I really liked this laptop when it came out. Used it for a month before taking it back. I could deal with the keyboard and the speed limitations, but ultimately it was that GD single usb port that ruined the experience. There was plenty of space for a second one, but Apple was Apple and refused to add it despite being one of the biggest complaints about the model. I’m a photographer by trade, so if I’m having to bring a GD dongle to plug in the power cord and an external drive or SD reader at the same time, I’m out.
You are mistaken in thinking that Air refers to other manufacturers when it refers to Apple’s other computers. It's really disgraceful for Apple to hold the title of 'only major manufacturer without a sub-1kg notebook'. The Air name is almost a joke by now, they only seem light compared to every other manufacturers cheaper notebooks, because everyone else make 14.1" ones, not 13.6".
How well did these sell? Did they justify making them if they didn’t sell very well? If they didn’t sell well, why would they bring it back? I’m not defending Apple, but did these even sell well (or other small devices they made like the iPhone mini)?Unlikely, Apple rarely give their consumers what they want. They’d rather sell you three devices instead of one.
The Air branding doesn’t mean anything. Just like their numbering system it’s a mess. You are mistaken in thinking that Air refers to other manufacturers when it refers to Apple’s other computers.
Why did you buy the 256GB one when they also offered 512GB?Purchased one and then returned it the next day because it had a measly 256GB of storage, I’m glad those days of 256 are over, oh wait, never mind.![]()
Are all the keys working on yours?I still have mine, an early 2016 with 512GB of storage; it still does a job as a mobile writing and browsing platform. Love the form factor, and I‘d like to see Apple offer a similar product again.
Did you even read Macrumors back then? The horror of only one port including for charging, high price, no fan, low performance CPU, and a keyboard many people didn't like.

Apple Announces 12-Inch Retina MacBook With Revamped Trackpad, Starting at $1,299
At today's "Spring Forward" media event, Apple announced its much-anticipated ultra thin 12-inch MacBook, with prices starting at...www.macrumors.com
The 11' iPad Pro exists. The 13.6' MacBook Air also exists. Choose one from themI love small computers and this needs to make a comeback with arm.
I remember a time when Apple could do better not just compared to their other products, but the whole market. You are mistaken in thinking that Air refers to other manufacturers when it refers to Apple’s other computers.
What was meh about its retina screen? The love is for the form factor and design.
The meh is for the screen and performance.
People are envisioning the former without the latter. What's not to love?
Even during those years the phrase Jobs’ Reality Distortion Field existed. But were talking about a name, not the products themselves.I remember a time when Apple could do better not just compared to their other products, but the whole market.
Good call. I wish they would stop the inaccurate numbering with the iPhones too. It’s not really iphone number 16, is it? I wish they would go for year number 2025 iphone pro like 2025 MacBook Air.I wonder if they have only an Air and Pro for this reason. You tell someone you have a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro, but if you just say MacBook, which one?
Back in the day almost every manager had one at my company. Ironically, if they price them right, meaning being expensive, then it could be the status symbol for management who don't need a Pro, but find having an Air "insulting". Anyone who needs better portability than the Air, would also pay the extra, if it has the right features, including me. It could sell better than the vision pro, for a fraction of the development cost. How well did these sell? Did they justify making them if they didn’t sell very well? If they didn’t sell well, why would they bring it back? I’m not defending Apple, but did these even sell well (or other small devices they made like the iPhone mini)?
This first Air was lighter than anything else at the time, so what are you trying to say?Even during those years the phrase Jobs’ Reality Distortion Field existed. But were talking about a name, not the products themselves.
Bring back Jony Ive.
"Most Controversial MacBook"Most controversial? This MacBook? Have we already forgotten the dustbin Mac Pro?
