The new Studio Display XDR replaces Apple's former Pro Display XDR. In the U.S., pricing starts at $3,299.

You can pre-order the Studio Display XDR on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app starting this Wednesday, March 4, and it launches on Wednesday, March 11.

More details to follow.

Really wish this was about 1k cheaper. Ha

The base studio display's only upgrade is the camera and the thunderbolt 5?! Bro...

I'm very confused. I thought it was going to be getting a major upgrade but they seem to have saved that for the extremely expensive XDR model.

The base is 600 nits brightness....have I missed something?

This is why I don’t get complaints about the iMac. The IMac includes a whole computer, keyboard and pointing device, has the exact same screen technology as the Studio Display, has the exact same camera, probably has comparable speakers, and starts at $1,499 for the four port version. The regular Studio Display is a very poor value in comparison

It's for reference TV and Production work... I bought a reference Sony monitor a while back for $18K

but I won't be buying this... 27" is tiny.
Yes, I was sure they'd release a new 32" XDR at some point. I guess it was a good choice to get my 32" LG UltraFine 6K with Thunderbolt 5 then last year.

Anyhow, here are the comparative specs between the new 27" ASD and 27" ASD XDR.

Yay! It means I have no need to upgrade yet from my current Studio Display 1!

Edit: oh nooo now I see it has 30% better bass. I’ll dislike not having that, but my music comes from my HomePods 2 in stereo pair when I want my music on, so however much better the speakers are doesn’t really make a big difference to me. Though again, this really is a nice feature if relying on the display’s speakers as your primary audio out.

Edit 2: The improved camera is also nice, but doesn’t seem like a terribly huge advantage over the 1st gen ASD’s already functional and lovely center stage camera.

Edit 3: I also think the updated ports to allow daisy chaining displays is awesome, but I feel this should’ve been a standard since the 1st gen, so this feature is actually a sourpoint for me and is more like a slap in the face kinda feel to 1st gen users. It should’ve always been possible and this is one hill I will wound on. I’ll be skipping a generation of this display but I look forward to what the future holds for the “cheaper” Studio Display because right now it is the most awesome display I’ve used yet and I hope Apple doesn’t let this line die. The other offerings they have in the display department run wild in price and start to demand that the display pay for itself with whatever work you do with it and I can’t justify a display for that purpose. My work doesn’t depend on all that. The Apple Studio Display line, which goes back historically quite far (just in other names), is the only reasonable consumer line of “ultimate” display which has the most unique and interesting features in the time they are released almost every time.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk about why I adore this display despite the 2nd gen being more of a 1.5 gen upgrade.

Edit 4: Actually now realizing that they lowered screen size for the “improved” XDR display makes the ASD 1 even more attractive and justifies itself as an ongoing monitor for the time being until a “true leap” moment comes from Apple. I’d consider replacing my original ASD at this point only if Apple releases one in a bigger screen size, paired with other niceties like OLED, faceID and/or touchID unlock, 120hz variable refresh rate, touchscreen, and other such cool things shoved in. The more apple garden features they can cram in, the more likely I am to go through the painful process of unrigging my mounted arm install and selling it on the market to pay for a new one. Bonus points if it’s compatible with my current VESA-mount setup (I think that’s what it’s called…?).
