I got edu pricing on my iPad 3 - granted, it was £15 but that helped towards a Smart Cover.

I'm in the UK, so maybe this is only relevant in the US.

Edit: Yep, other posters have stated their UK discount.

A $30 discount on a $400 device not really making it "more affordable"... If that's the make or break to buying one, probably shouldn't be at all.

My point is every little bit helps and Apple in the recent past has been reducing it. I do agree its a bit meager but at least its something.

The discounted education pricing is available to employees of K-12 schools as well as faculty, staff, students, and parents of students at higher education institutions.

The issue I have here is parents of higher education students get a discount, I guess because they are helping pay or paying for the student's education. What about a spouse? I promise you my wallet is constantly lifted.

Father's Day Gift????

Isn't the idea of an education discount that the device is used by the student for thier education? They should call this a Father's Day sale...

FWIW

This is not just an education discount. I'm seeing the same $469/379 pricing through the EPP Apple Store.

They've been reducing the edu discounts in general, so its nice to see them hopefully make it more affordable for students.

I would agree, they have been, as well as reducing the price of some of their systems as a whole.

I'd like to see the $50 app store or $100 app store coupon instead of just a $20 decrease in price come back to school time though.

The issue I have here is parents of higher education students get a discount, I guess because they are helping pay or paying for the student's education. What about a spouse? I promise you my wallet is constantly lifted.

It's so they can buy it for them and give it as a gift, or surprise them.

Even if it wasn't stated, Apple Retail has been doing that for years. Usually with just an acceptance letter where the last name matches.

To be honest, giving an EDU discount isn't enforced at all. Many employees just gave them out all willy nilly if it helped them move AppleCare and One-To-One.

Europe is different....?

Yeah, so they should write their articles to reflect that fact, not say things such as:

"...and marks the first time that Apple has included the iPad in the special program."

..which is completely factually incorrect. If they had added 'in the USA' at the end, then great it's fine, but there's more to the world than the USA. The source articles is even French, yet MacRumors only talk about US pricing.

Now there's a distinction between making the education discount even better, and introducing it completely fresh. It's hard to tell what has happened here because the article is so poor itself. Is this 'new' or 'better'???

I had a look for surface a little while ago as i was looking at a new laptop. The only student discount I could find was for the 32gb surface RT original. I want all my music (in itunes preferably to put on my iPad i was given), all my software (which the iPad cant run or couldn't run at the time) but the selling point was the app store which had nothing in....
Although i would not buy a iPad today as it again just feels a bit like a toy - all your entertainment on it but thats that - cant run the software i need to i have all my films and music on it - a Windows 8 all in one is (sadly) the best way to go for a student at the moment.

Search for Microsoft Education Store. 10% discount ... Or for my surface 3 pre-order, the equivalent of a free type cover.

I believe the education discount is highly abused. Why would anyone buy a Apple product not using it? Even elementary schools are on the list. Anyone with a school aged child that uses the computer is entitled to it.

The fact that you can get even better prices from resellers makes this pointless. $30 bucks off won't even dent the tax, especially here in California.

The only education discount really worth anything is the $200 off on the $2000+ high end models. Otherwise, if I can afford an $1800 machine to begin with, $100 bucks isn't go to dissuade me if I truly want it.

I don't see how anyone can complain. It's not a huge savings but it's 6% and 5% off the iPad Air and iPad mini respectively. In Canada the discount is smaller (4%, 5%) but it brings the prices down to US retail, which I'm happy about.

I'll always take that education discount. Saved me $200.00 CDN on my 13" i7 MBpro when I got it. Paid lessor it, then what I did for my old '09 13" in the day.:)

This is strengthening my resolve to skip the $75 Best Buy sale and wait for hopefully a 12" iPad!

When you're a student, £5 makes the different between being able to afford a kebab after a night out, and not being able to afford a kebab after a night out :D
If you can't afford food, then don't buy an ipad.

Why don't they just extend this to everyone and be done with it? As someone else here pointed out, it's fairly easy to get the education discount no matter what. Besides, why are education "people" worth a discount? What about the rest of us? :D
