Great news. The bulky chargers in the UK are not very portable, loving the change.

I assume Apple have patented this design (and totally their right to do so), but I'd love to see this spread to…well…every other plug in the UK. :D

(and I'm aware that there are other solutions to the chunky UK plug issue, but this one seems more elegant, and doesn't seem to sacrifice any of the safety and robustness that I love about UK electrical plugs/sockets)

Yay - love it!

I've always loved the solid feel of our UK plugs - so much more secure than the flimsy-seeming US ones. But they're a nightmare to store as they're huge.

So this looks cool, and the way it folds/opens is brilliant!

Just wish my Watch had arrived so I could have my own plug. But no, still "processing" :(

I've been dubious about this whole Tim-Cook-as-CEO thing, but thanks to a new charger, I'm starting to come around.

nice design...
many US readers probably don't realize how BIG the UK prongs are - so the folding effect really does have a big impact...

But some of us wish our outlets were like UK outlets. They're safer and totally standard where here in the US, we have old buildings with 2-blade plugs with no ground pin so you either need a cheater plug or are screwed, and though NEMA 5-15 plugs are the standard, NEMA 5-20 (higher current) plugs are appearing in some newer buildings, and some power-sensitive electronics don't like them and things designed specifically for NEMA 5-20 (uncommon, but they exist) won't work with NEMA 5-15 outlets. We're a mess.

When I saw the picture Will Carling posted, I said I'd be up for one of these, now I'm having second thoughts.

With the size and price, I would have expected it to be a 10W charger, not a 5W.

#####

When I ordered my watch the delivery was estimated mid May, I was ok with that, but when yesterday I received an email that my watch was on its way I was filled with excitement, then panic set in.
I was in Germany yesterday and was travelling back to the UK this morning. I had fingers and toes crossed that the UPS guy would come after my arrival..... I tracked every step until the last leg of my trip, I went into airplane mode and when we landed I quickly checked, hoping I still had time. I had just missed it, and with my neighbour not available I desperately called ups to see if they can Come back today, NO was the answer,it will be Monday.
I was ok with May but being so close and yet so far it is really annoying.

Fantastic news! Must help a lot with packaging for apple as well as users.

I hope theres one for fitting on a macbook power brick soon too.

Hope this becomes standard for every UK plug. Nothing worse than standing on one in bare feet during the night. (OK, Lego may be equal!)

beautiful design but i think its best if the plug on the charger can be changed for different type of outlets. better than having to have multiple chargers imo

OMG I totally feel for you! Monday will be here before you know it...but i bet it smarts!

Cool. Just need a 12W version of this for iPad charging. And new MacBook charging.

The US charger for the iPad and MacBook has always folded... does the UK version not?

Will the US also be getting a folding iPhone charger? The current design is kind of bulky and has the cable come out at a bad angle (straight out. Since I put furniture right in front of where the charger plugs in, the cable sometimes gets damaged over the years of the furniture slightly getting pushed forward and backwards.

It's very clever but what a rip-off! £25!?!?!?

Open up any Apple charger and compare it with a no-name version bought on the street for a lot less money.

Apple chargers are well-designed and safe. They also bear the logos of worldwide safety standards organizations. Open up a much cheaper no-name charger and you'll find shoddy construction/workmanship, fewer components, an inferior design, and likely no certification.

If that doesn't mean much to you, good luck. If you care about the above, I suppose your other option is to find better employment that would permit spending £25 for a superior and safer design.

In some ways I wish the Aussie pins were like the UK or US pins. I hate how we have a 45 degree angle on the Active and Neutral lines. I'm yet to see a way to easily hide the Aussie style power pins.

You lucky buggers :D

Preventing the plugging in of an appliance that requires 20 amps in a circuit that is only rated for 15 amps is the point.

US has one major safety feature -120v circuits. UK connectors are over engineered for what is required in US for similar safety.
