So, what happened to HDMI2.1? A consumer 6800 has 2.1 while Apple seems to be stuck at 2.0, which means no 8k display support.

I was looking forward to this upgrade but it’s not worth it. I don’t really hit the limits of the current W5700 I’m using right now, even with 2 5k displays plus other displays, because I mostly do real-time and desktop stuff. (Although the 16GB VRAM are getting a little tight sometimes.) the big upgrade I was hoping for was support for 8k via HDMI 2.1.
Why do you need 8K? There is exactly one computer monitor (Dell UP3218K) and half a dozen or so 8K TVs ($3,000 and up) to watch what little 8K content exists. Bragging rights? "Future Proof" (air quotes)? You're better off looking at how to build an actual bonafide 4K HDR workflow if you're doing video with highly color calibrated monitors, high speed storage and decent capture cameras. You're doing fine at 2560x1440 (2.5K), but you're going to skip 4K and/or 5K because 8K? Makes no sense. Unless you have a real workflow for 8K (few do), it sounds like you're spec chasing instead of evaluating your real needs. I would wager that buying a 6K/8K camera is way more important than an 8K monitor.

Try this.

Open Adobe Bridge on one side of the screen showing a folder with dozens of assets and then Photoshop or Illustrator or Premiere on the other side of the screen.

On a 1080-1440p monitor this is too crammed.

On a 4K screen this becomes usable. On an 8K screen you’ll be able to see large thumbnails in Bridge and drag them into your working app so fluidly.

On an 8K screen you have plenty of real estate for multiple apps and data management. You can have Photoshop open with a massive image open and instead of seeing it at 25% zoom level the file will open with 50% zoom level By default.

Color accuracy isn't always important and there are use-cases other than video editing in HDR.

40"-55" 4k panels can be used as computer monitors in lowDPI for the desktop space they offer. With HDMI 2.1, one could drive one of those $3000 panels to get a hidpi desktop that's "4k" size. That would be my dream.

I currently use the LG 5k displays (two of them) but they're quite small. I see people use something like a Philips BDM4350UC (43" 3840x2160), for CAD or multitasking with a lot of desktop space, but everything is pixelated because they aren't HiDPI. So if I want HiDPI I'm stuck at the 2560x1440 desktop size that the LG 5k monitors offer OK, I could get an Apple Pro Display XDR which is 6k, but that's $6000 for which I could get 2 (!) 65" 8k TVs with HDMI 2.1

Pretty nice to see the ongoing support as promised. The 2013 never got a single upgrade option, not even available OEM parts to upgrade to the higher end options.

The option for 10 XDR displays with 2 W6800X Duo MPXs is not adding up. It describes 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 but that comes to 6 displays. Lack of proofreading of these video card documents was a problem when the 2019 Mac Pro came out. Now it's happened again.

You've skipped over the 3840x1600 ultrawide option here.

Nine days since announcement, probably need another 5-7 days before the early adopters get their shipment. I would assume that the 6900XT is going to be the hardest to get as I don’t think yields are very high right now.
Had the duo since Monday, and got the 2nd duo for 4 w6800x, some benchmarks here already:

Honestly didn’t expect them to ship that quickly, but Apple probably gets guaranteed quantities as part of the contract with AMD that make it more likely for Mac users to obtain one than a PC user.
