Apple Investigating Apple Watch Series 8 and Ultra Microphone Issues

Apple has acknowledged that some Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra users may experience microphone issues, including when trying to use Siri, make a phone call, and more.

Users have reported issues with their Apple Watch microphone becoming persistently unresponsive after some time, causing apps that rely on the mic to throw up errors and stop working entirely.

In a new memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple says it's aware of the bug affecting users, specifically saying customers could face problems with ‌Siri‌ not being able to hear them, recording voice memos, and conducting phone calls. A "Measurement Suspended" message may also appear in the Noise app.

Apple says that restarting the Apple Watch may temporarily fix the problem and suggests the problem is not hardware related. Apple in the memo says that customers should remain updated to the latest watchOS version, indicating a fix could soon be released.

I have been complaining about a 2 year bug that Siri always needs a physical tap acknowledgement after asking for a HomeKit command. Something they 'introduced' with WatchOS7 and finally fixed in WatchOS9. An essential basic function for this kind of watch. Not do they overcharge a premium over premium but quality keeps falling short. They need to get their act together. The Watch has stagnated since Series 5/6. I expect lackluster innovation for the Series 9. Siri has been stagnating forever, they need to get their act together. They give the impression that the sales keep going without putting much work into the Watch. Again, stop innovating when taking the crown. They used to innovate even if they were on top of their game by a mile, but now it's like we on the top so we stop. Great names did they same; Nokia, Intel and Microsoft. We all know what happened to them. The bloody Series 8 is basically a Series 6 in disguise. A trick they pulled on the Series 7 and also trying to implement on the iPhones.

I'm hoping Matter cleans up all lot of this. Today, my We Mo remote simply did not want to turn on the lights for some reason.

Exactly. It worked if i operated it via phone or I had to unlock my phone with the screen on and it would work (sometimes). That beats the reason buying the Watch.

My Apple Watch ultra started getting calls today that didn’t go to my phone. Calls that were not for me and not for my phone number….. like wtf

I almost feel like the “ah hah see its wfh” posts are not only not funny/clever or interesting perspectives they ignore that apple has had WFH for years and the quality varies year over year.

Anyone who’s been playing the long game with apple products knows its generally bad quality control gotten worse over time in aggregate. Then there’s the camp of “no issues ever” despite that being factually incorrect but i think they’re better off for having that experience and opinion

They aren’t serious about cleaning stuff up so of course it’s an existing issue exacerbated by ignoring that it’s even a problem in the first place. Imo.

wfh is the scapegoat. At least when it comes to QUALITY CONTROL. quality control !== some ostensible innovation is stifled by wfh argument

I encountered this issue last weekend when I recorded a voice memo of a bad driver’s car’s registration number. Went to play the voice memo back later and just had four seconds of dead air. Found out that Siri wasn’t working anymore either.

Restarted the Ultra, and it was fine after that.

I WFH and I can tell you that this was not possible before COVID but with most people being at home.

Everyone’s is not as sharp as being in the office this things end up getting missed or glanced over quickly leading to lower quality product when it reaches consumers.
