I'd NEVER spend more than $30 tops on headphones. Between sitting on the cords and having them snap, accidentally stepping on them, my cat deciding to chew them, just flat out losing them, and normal wear and tear I go through a pair of headphones on average once every 6 months. Words would not describe the anger I'd have at dropping $150 on quality headphones to come home and see my cat using them as a chew toy...

this

i've had 2 sets of Sennheisers that my employer bought me break due to the cord going bad. mostly it's too long to listen to on the subway so i had to wrap it.

my current headphones are $10

My Beats by Dre to that list...Sometimes when you click the mic to fast forward or reverse...all you get is a spike/decrease in volume...$299 and what recourse do I have?
My Studio Edition has the same problem. Been working with Monster Support for weeks trying to figure it out to no avail.

Sucks, because the ControlTalk cable that comes with the Solos works fine with the iPhone 4.

I get this issue with my klipsch s2m set. It doesn't work on my ip4 an causes my music to play erratically and also opens voice control randomly. I can only use them on my MacBook pro. It sucks because they are decent headphones too.

Yep. Same headphones, same problem for me. Wonder if Monster made them or something.

From my experience the issue stems from the connection to the phone. When mine was being bizarre and fast scrubbing through a song I could twist the connection at the jack on the phone and it would stop the music or go back to normal.

Just stick to Sennheisers.

So true.

Monster is no better than Bose, and while I have a Bose (QC 15s, gift), I can honestly say that money would have been better spent on Sennheisers that I've listened to. The Bose also sounds better than my friend's Beats I tried out.

Exact same thing could be said of Apple. :apple:

Well perhaps but not exactly. Most Apple stuff is overpriced for what it is but not into the same territory as Monster (although there are some exceptions). While there exist obvious alternatives to most Monster products, many of Apple's offerings are unique or provide unique features or novel ways of doing things. Finally, they differ greatly in their marketing approaches.

Thanks for your recommendations. I've spent over $100 on two different pairs of Shures that have lasted less than a year without having troubles. Last year, they cheapened their E350 cables and made them lighter and less durable without lowering price. I'm fairly done with them, but I do like the conical, flanged in-ear tips for their noise-cancelling abilities and the way they fit and stay in my ears without falling out. I don't know other producers who make that kind of tip.

I would be interested in your suggestions of mods, etc, as I agree that the apple headphones work quite well except for the uber-annoying heads. So please post any more links or suggestions you have.

Sure no problem, i have found a website that lists both the iGrado and JVC headphone mods on the same page, among others.

http://www.gradolabs.net/mods.html

Also regarding the Apple headphone mod that allows you replace the apple earbuds with other drivers therefore utlising the Mic, Volume, Play pause functionality.

http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/10/iphone_headphone_mod.html

As i mentioned i have successfully carried out this mod on my iGrados and JVC marshmellow headphones and it works perfectly, so very pleased.

Let me know if you need any further help

had the same issue using the apple in ear headphones with mic on my 3gs. subsequently fried the internal mic on the phone so you have to shout to be heard..i was overjoyed with the situation as one might imagine.

Garbage headphones from a garbage company. I love people who walk around and think they’re trendy with their Beats/Monster/Skullcandy headphones.

Protip: Do some research on a site like Head-Fi before you buy your next pair of headphones.

LOL totally know what your saying. I've come into work sometimes to find guys sitting in the lobby waiting area conscientiously taking note if you've noticed their awesome BEATS by Dre which totally don't match their formal work attire.

I'll stick to my IEM's when I'm on the go thanks. As for Head-fi, fill up your wallet before go to that place LOL... *sigh*

Most people in here posting about headphones dont seem to have actually listened to Monster headphones.

I dont own a pair, but I have access to Studios and Solos every day, and they blow away anything Sennheiser or Bose have come up with.

As for overpriced, well they are expensive, but value for money is very subjective.

Agree about Skullcandy's though, they are truly garbage.

What Sennheisers did you use to compare?

So this error is happening with other headphones too but everyone just targets Beats? How many of you have actually listened to them? Sure, they cost waaay too much but they're still decent, especially for hiphop/rave/techno/drum'n'bass

Good way to put it & thats why I give them thousands of dollars!

Possible solution

I have a pair of Klipsch headphones that exhibited the same behavior. On a tip from somewhere else I slapped a piece of scotch tape over the headphone jack and cut the hole out with an Exacto knife. That left the tape around the hole as an insulator between the plug and the metal band on the iPhone.

Not sure if it's just me, but that made my problem go away.

i have the in ears as well and only have the issue with my s2m's

I must admit I haven't used the headphones. Maybe it varies.
I would actually be surprised if Monster had anything to do with these headphones' manufacturing. I suspect it's case where someone paid a bunch of money to license the Monster brand for their product. It's like a Nike t-shirt. I truly doubt the shirts are being by the same folks producing Air Jordans.

What Sennheisers did you use to compare?

We sell the full range of in ear, on ear, around ear, wired and wireless Senns, all none in ears are set up on a specific Sennheiser stand which people can listen to. None of which have the specific sound of Studios or Solos. I cant think of a single customer who has listened to the Monsters and gone back to the Sennheiser stand. They just don't compare to those Monster products.

The Beats by Monster, well meh, same with the Jamz, but I could say the same for the Sennheiser IE8's which broke in 6 months and sounded flat as hell, thank god I only won them in a competition.

In Senns favour, for a pound per sound they have the cx300 Precisions in ears, which you can get online for less than a tenner, and they are amazing for the price.

Some people have mentioned the top of the line Shures (530s) - they should check out the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10's. Two thirds of the price with the same sound quality and the option of custom fit buds.

Someone else mentioned B&W P5's but they sound almost identical to the Bose QC 15's which sound pretty good, until you listen to the Studios.

Beats by dr dre headphones

you get 2 wires with the headphones so use the wire that doesen't have control talk, and this would mean you would have to pause and play manually but it won't ruin your ipod if you use the other wire so now the problem is solved. However the control talk wire will also break very easilly and won't last you long at all!:apple:
