Apple is investigating an issue that seems to be affecting Verizon 3G iPad 2 owners. The Apple Support Discussion boards list five pages discussing the problem. Wi-Fi functions work well enough, but 3G connections either take several minutes or never occur at all. While there's no clear evidence that all Verizon iPad 2 users face the same problem, the complaints coming in from those affected are very similar. When the Verizon iPad 2's 3G function is deactivated, it will not reactivate or connect without a reboot. Switching the device in and out airplane mode has no effect.Apple issued a statement to All Things D about the issue and write "We are aware that a small number of iPad 2 customers have experienced connectivity issues with the Verizon 3G network and we are investigating it."

Just heard about this from a forumgoer today. Doesn't seem to be a huge issue though. Hopefully it gets fixed to those affected.

If other users are like me, then Apple will not know how widespread the problem is. I bought the Verizon 3G iPad 2, but I do not plan to turn on the Verizon data plan. I am using it only with WiFi...awaiting the Verizon 4G/LTE MiFi from Novatel (expected within 2 weeks from now), and not planning to pay for data twice. I only hope that they fix the problem before I ever need to fall back on relying on the built-in 3G...in case my MiFi's battery runs out and I am stuck with no way to charge it.

Thi isn't a big deal. It's probably a minor software bug. We'll see it fixed in a software update. We saw stuff like this on the wifi iPad when 4.0 was in developer beta.

Ummm.. why'd you buy the 3G model if you're not even going to use it that much? Could have saved a few bucks I'd think.

I'd actually say that it is a big deal. My iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 never got good connections; I would often miss SMS (for days) or not be able to get net access. Wireless connectivity should come first and foremost for a phone or wireless device.

doesn't effect me :)

looking at all the problems with the verizon ipad 2, im am glad i ordered the at&t model insted:D

it happened to my VZW iphone 4... now it's fixed

I had used 2nd gen ipod touch before I purchased Verizon iPhone 4 so I backed up the data of ipod touch and restore them to iphone 4. Since then I frequently experienced that 3G never connected particularly when I get away from Wi-Fi zone. I called Apple Support and they did not know the reason. They just told me to go to Verizon retail store. The folks at Verizon store did not know why but they knew its 3G would work OK after rebooting.

I learned from another forum that I should reset the network setting. I think ipod data back up and transferring them to iphone actually messed up network settings. After I reset the network setting, everything worked without problem. I don't think every user who restored the data experienced the same problem. It's just one possibility.

I think some Verizon ipad 2 customers with the issue might have restored data from previous ipod touch or ipad 1 and it messed up network setting. If so, resetting network would be worth trying.

I hope the issue is not really complicated one.

It's legit. My Verizon iPad (writing from it right now) has this happen. I didn't think it that big of a deal. If you turn on 3G, and restart the iPad, it connects perfectly. But no, it won't connect at all if you don't restart.

P.S - Never had an iPad 1, still have the issue.

Oh, good. I thought it was just me.

I really believe it's a software fix that's needed. It works after a reboot which suggests to me that the hardware is a-ok.
