I have a Verizon iPad 2 and have no trouble with switching 3G on and off.

+1 My Verizon iPad 2 has no trouble switching between wifi & 3G. Hopefully, it gets fixed for the people experiencing the issue.

Just because some Jackass found a way to block the antenna on the iPhone does not mean that apple produced an iPhone incapable of connecting to a network properly.

Congrats for a great imagination, I've never seen any animal holding one much less a Jackass. Do you do stand up comedy?

lol @ the people blaming the Verizon network.
Protip: it isn't the network.

It can be but probably isnt.
There never was a hardware issue with the iPhone. Just because some Jackass found a way to block the antenna on the iPhone does not mean that apple produced an iPhone incapable of connecting to a network properly.

You can do it with nearly any smartphone.

...Now at&t's network reliability? Thats another story.:apple:

Lol wow really? I have had 3 iphones on their launches and the day i got the iphone 4 it dropped a call where the other 2 had perfect coverage. The phone's antenna is just placed really bad and yes a case fixes it but it is a problem, quit thinking apple is just o so perfect.

Ummm.. why'd you buy the 3G model if you're not even going to use it that much? Could have saved a few bucks I'd think.

Perhaps for GPS? I almost bought a 3G model for that reason but decided it wasn't worth $139 in the end.

Same here, but keeping my fingers crossed.

question for all. do you keep 3g on and wifi? or when u use wi-fi do you turn it off.

I keep 3G off and use wifi, but when i can't I turn 3G off and use it. Even though my iPad will default to wifi when both are on, keeping only one on extends battery life.

Same here. No problems. And I switch back & forth every weekday ( like to keep it on 3G while at work unless I need to download a large update). This is one issue that is not "universal but some people just don't notice it". Coworker who bought his at the same time on launch day also doesn't have problems switching.

Apple never acknowledges small problems so this must be wide spread and we will never get the exact root cause.

Picked up a 32GB Verizon iPad2 a few weeks ago and I did have issues trying to activate my 3G data plan when in an area with no wifi coverage. I did see the Verizon carrier flag and had bars at the time but the registration process kept failing. A day or two later, in the same spot even, it went through and has been working fine since. I leave wifi and 3G on together most of the time but I have turned off 3G and haven't had a problem when turning it back on.

I bought the 3G model because I use Navionics software which is a nautical chart database you download to the iPad so you don't need data when on the water, but you do need the 3G/GPS chipset to take advantage of it. I also have an AT&T data card provided by my company so now I have 2 flavors of connectivity should I be in a coverage area AT&T doesn't cover.

Hope this issue is identified and resolved soon.

Here is the issue....

If you have the 4GLTE option enable and are in a 4G area everything works fine. If you have the 4GLTE option enabled and are in a 3G only area, the 3G signal will fade in out at random even though your signal is good. To fix this 3G issue, turn off the 4GLTE option in settings and then all of a sudden you will have no more 3G issues. just remember to enable 4GLTE in settings when you travel back to a 4G area. I have tried this on about 6 different iPads and use multiple SIM/Numbers all with the same result above. It is a bug and a pain for now!
