Forbes tech writer is reporting that iOS 12.1.2 is killing cellular data on many phones. Haven't noticed it on mine, as yet. Apparently. Twitter is blowing up with reports of the bug. Haven't seen anything from Apple on it yet, either.

After a promising start, iOS 12.1.2 is going from bad to worse for iPhone owners and Apple AAPL -0.26%’s legally motivated rush to push out the update needs further discussion as it is now having very serious consequences for many users…

As more and more iPhone owners blindly upgrade to iOS 12.1.2 reports are now flooding in from around the world that it cuts off mobile data services. As such, Apple’s claims that it “Addresses an issue that could affect cellular connectivity in Turkey for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max” seem ironic given the problem has now expanded to all models of iPhone across all continents.

Tracking complaints on Twitter alone, iPhone owners now suffering from mobile data loss after upgrading to iOS 12.1.2 can be found in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. But the United States appears to be hit particularly hard:

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. India is also badly hit and the complaints are flying in. For example: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33… you get the picture.

So what is Apple doing? There has been no official comment and the company’s official Twitter support is telling users to restart their phones and update carrier settings but, for what I can see, it’s not helping.

The only good news on the horizon is Apple has already started beta testing iOS 12.1.3. The release date is unknown and it again appears to be motivated by legal concerns. Still, it would be astonishing if Apple doesn’t acknowledge and try to fix these mobile data problems at the same time.

But for now, I would strongly suggest you steer clear of iOS 12.1.2. The scale of any iOS problem is always impossible to know given the sheer number of iPhones in circulation, but since iOS 12.1.2 exists primarily as a loophole to get Apple out of a Chinese sales embargo I can’t see any reason why you’d risk your mobile data connection for it?

Interesting. Did not read about this recently.

I'm sure glad I didn't spend $1000 + to beta test these iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max phones. Always let the product "mature" is a good practice I guess. This news won't help the already declining sales numbers for these models, either. The issues with them just continue to pile up.........
 
I have not experienced anything listed in that article.. Considering there hasn’t been any threads started since the update supporting your assertion I’m betting it’s typical media over exaggeration of an issue..

It's not looking like a hardware issue, so it shouldn't impact sales at all. It totally looks like a iOS issue. If it were to impact anything I would think it was the adoption of 12.1.2.

It's not my assertions, at all. It is Forbes. And, as we all well know, bad bugs do not necessarily hit everyone. So you and I not being hit by it means nothing on a global scale.

I'd suggest you search Twitter for iOS 12.1.2. You'll see many reports of it.
There are plenty of anecdotal reports of all kinds of issues pretty much when it comes to any and every update, and not just iOS/Apple ones. That in itself doesn't necessarily mean there's actually some really serious widespread issue.

It's not looking like a hardware issue, so it shouldn't impact sales at all. It totally looks like a iOS issue. If it were to impact anything I would think it was the adoption of 12.1.2.

Doesn’t effect my iPhone 8.....

No issues on my iPhone 7 Plus.

By now most folks should have received and installed the update. If this issue existed and was widespread, there would be mobs of disgruntled folks at every Apple Store.

I think a few people had an unrelated problem, blamed the update, and the media sites ran with it. Again.

Forbes frequently writes click bait articles with the title “iOS x.x.x Has a Serious Problem”. Not saying that no one is experiencing it, but it’s probably much more isolated than the article makes it out to be. That said I’m still on iOS 12.1.1 as iOS 12.1.2 seems like it was rushed out by Apple and hasn’t gone through the full beta program, so I’d rather wait for iOS 12.1.3 to be released.
 
12.1 on my iPad Pro 10.5 Cellular, iPX and iPhone SE.

I’ve been very hesitant since Apple released 12.1.1 with the multitasking issue. Definitely glad I didn’t upgrade to 12.1.2!

I currently have the Apple TV profile installed on all 3 devices so I don’t get the notifications. 12.1 is working well on all devices so I don’t feel comfortable upgrading yet.
