... but, by the look at all the newbies, I'm guessing it's just trolling going on.
Apple has ONE phone in their line up. How many other manufacturers have this? Not to decry Apple's success but take it with a pinch of salt when every other phone manufacturer spreads their sales over 20 or so handsets, not to mention this is about domestic (not overall) sales and is I guess referring to the U.S. market, rather than the ROTW, lowly as we are.
yeah but you have to buy the gadget and pay for 2 yrs contract!
i wouldn't want that in a down economy!
I'm right there with you. Previously, I carried a RAZR (bah!), my iPod, and a small notebook/calendar, but now I just carry my iPhone. In some instances, it's even replaced my laptop, especially with email and light browsing.
And while people talk about the lack of Copy-Paste and MMS, they ignore the incredible advantages that the iPhone offers because of the Apps store. Over the last few weeks, I've downloaded Urbanspoon to search for restaurants, Fieldrunners (an excellent iPhone version of Desktop Tower Defense), and during the presidential election I listened to NPR through the AOL application and looked up polling data on www.fivethirtyeight.com. Try to do that on a RAZR!
The iPhone's hardware is excellent and a joy to use, but the software is where the real game is at. And, there's where Motorola and a host of other companies just cannot compete.
RIM seems to be the only company that understands this.
Yeah, but I have 900 minutes now. What if AT&T decides to stop charging me for incoming calls tomorrow?
I'll tell you what happens...my plan suddenly has 450 minutes for the same price!
So really, why should I care? It'll all come out the same in the end.
This is good news for Apple because now we know they are going to survive the recession.
Apple wouldn't care, they are making more money than most of these companies who are selling more phones.Apple has ONE phone in their line up. How many other manufacturers have this? I had a couple of blackberries and a razr - my iPhone is the only cell phone I've owned that I didn't want to throw in a river (the Ohio to be specific).
Easy to use. Fun. Adds to my productivity. Seems like a simply thing to do, but this is the first time I actually don't mind using my cell phone.
BTW - Showed my iPhone to two friends at work - one bought an Iphone over the weekend. Show a blackberry or a razr to someone and I seriously doubt they will run out and buy one. (The second friend is still negotiating with his wife![]()
The iPhone and RAZR were followed by the RIM Blackberry Curve, LG Rumor and LG enV2 in the top 5 ranking.
Lots of aapl competitors and spin clowns such as Enderle have their boys posting a lot of crap. They've been doing it for the past year.
Some thoughts, bearing in mind that the article was about USA sales only:
The RAZR usually sells about 2 million per quarter.
The iPhone sold 2.4 million last quarter. So it probably just edged out the RAZR, which has held the lead for at least a year and a half.
NPD's survey leaves out corporate RIM sales.
Gotta love the way that survey companies make up headlines to sell their product.
mrwalker said:Maybe. And of course anyone that dares to criticize holy Jobs/Apple must be spreading FUD. Pathetic!
But, corporate RIM sales are just that, corporate sales. This is measuring the consumer sales of each of those products.
If we were to take a look at corporate sales, I'd expect to see RIM and maybe Palm in much higher positions than either Motorola's RAZR or Apple's iPhone. However, if the iPhone is close to RIM in the consumer market, that may tell us where the corporate market will be in a year.
You are not getting the same deal in the US.
I paid £59 ($100 ish) for my 16gb Iphone 3g.
I pay £45 ($75 ish) for 1,200 minutes(incoming calls are free), 500 texts (incoming is free), unlimited data and wifi subscription to cloud/BTopenzone.
I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world and I am getting a much better deal than majority of US customers.
I only have a landline for broadband and if people here were charged for incoming calls then there would be a huge outcry. I would change my cell number and only give it to family and really close friends. eeek.
I don't know how you guys cope with it!
Then that should be a part of the headline.
Or it might not.
Consider that RIM outsold Apple by two-to-one in the quarter before the one mentioned in the article.
It could just mean that in 2Q everyone was waiting for the iPhone 3G, and in the 3Q everyone is waiting on the Storm / Bold.
