If the word is correct, you'd have to press the space bar anyway.

All the damn R&D spent on predictive typing -- if they'd just made the damn keyboard work in landscape it wouldn't be necessary. I'll "trust the keyboard" when it's bigger. The fact that they had this video ready for release after the reviews came out -- when they knew they'd be dinged for the keyboard -- indicates they are aware that the typing thing is a real problem. Rather than solve the problem, they've gone to extra lengths to merely explain why it's not a problem. Not the same thing. Landscape keyboard, 16 megs of RAM storage and it's out-of-the-park. First version is a solid triple.

hope to god you meant 16gigs... and this thing is way better than any other keyboard. have you ever tried to use an enV from vzn? that landscape keyboard is about the size of an iPhone, and it is tough as balls to type on. Try it sometime before you bash the iPhone. Friday, please skip thursday already!!

That's what I am getting at. What if I'm typing a proper name (not that I'm going to end a sentence with a proper name) something that is a tech or medical term that isn't in the dictionary... I have to stop my typing in the keypad area just to say, "YES, that is what I meant to say."

I guess only time will tell. I hope I didn't sound like a nay-sayer, I was just wondering where the logic for that was. I don't want to hit the space bar after typing something like Monty and hit space only to realize after I sent the e-mail, I called Monty - Money.

I do like the magnifying glass demo too. Makes for easier editing.

I wish I were staying in town so I could wait in line on Friday. By the time I get to Vegas that afternoon, they'll all be gone. :D :(

Anybody in Vegas want to save me a spot in line? :D

Landscape keyboard

I'm sure there has to be a landscape keyboard in iPhone when it hits Europe (EU).
We have many more characters in our alphabets, that the keyboard doesn't fit in iPhones vertical mode, unless iPhone is english speaking only.
Hope, not.

two words: software update. if it isn't there on launch, i'm sure it'll make its way...eventually.

Not as I understand it. If the word comes up wrong, then you can keep typing the word you were trying to type (or at least you should be able to). Or at the very least you hit an extra key to say, "No, I didn't want that." If the predicted word is correct, you press the space bar, which you would've done anyway, so no extra step.

The only extra step (possibly) is when the guessed word is wrong.

I just hope this thing will include REAL english when it's in Europe and not American English or "International English..." whatever that is.

I really don't want to be typing "mom" or "sulfur".

Finally!!!

As cool as this is, I hope there is an easy way to disable the word-prediction functionality as I often find myself having to switch to another language for the occasional email and this would get in the way.

This is something playing on my mind as well. Oftentimes I have to write or text in different languages and the word prediction feature is of course an absolute disaster. Multiple language user switcher or interface would be something revolutionary and much needed. This of course is not just supporting different languages, but also supporting the switching between them which is just as important.

Anyone heard about the support given to different languages???
