Apple today shared a new experimental Shot on iPhone XR video that features footage captured using 32 iPhone XR devices mounted on a bullet time rig.

The video depicts various materials, including fire, colored water, dry ice bubbles, and colored slime, in a rotating rig that provides a 360 degree view.

The video is accompanied by a behind the scenes look at how it was made, complete with a demonstration of the crazy camera rig that Apple constructed from 32 iPhone XRs on bullet time mounts.

The video, in addition to using a custom iPhone XR camera rig with multiple devices, also uses specific iPhone camera techniques like slo-mo, which can capture slow motion video at 240 frames per second.

This is the second experimental video Apple has made with the 2018 iPhones. Back in September, ahead of when the new iPhones were released, Apple shared an experimental Shot on iPhone XS video using materials like clay and ink to demo slo-mo, 4K, and time lapse.

Funny YouTube suggested this video yesterday which shares similar idea but has a higher coolness factor.

I get the impression that the visuals are going to overshadow the audio, but it sounds a lot like lissajous music. It actually looks pretty cool played through an oscilloscope. Particularly at 19 or 48 seconds in.

The video quality is garbage, 480p??? Plus the bitrate of YT

Sad to see on what an otherwise enjoyable video would’ve been

Apple has a YouTube channel I subscribe to. Do they ever want to upload and have viewed a video better than 1080p? I know this is a dial between them and YouTube with format but eventually they must want people to see better quality footage.

Behind the Scenes was more impressive. Can I have that job.
If you know how to set it up, start smaller at home and post to YouTube. I'm not kidding plenty of people figuring that out and many do it in their spare time. I just don't have what it takes but I am willing to tune in.

Wow, bullet time rig. Is is 1999?

Wait for the next Ivy monolog. Only Apple could unapologetically invent bullet time. Just like they invented 4k when it finally came to AppeTV and they're about to invent wireless charging. At least according to Jony.

My thoughts exactly. It looks so destructive and fun, and it'd really change the way you talk about your career.

"Honey, I really dropped the ball at work today…"

"You did? I'm so proud of you!"

Are we just waiting for YouTube to encode the HD version, or did they really upload it in 480?
