my apple ipod touch 5th generation(i got it 6 months ago) is having charging problems.the moment i put it for charge on my computer's USB it doesn't charge.
after pulling the plug and keeping something heavy on the charger it somehow charges.
also the battery is very weak even though i don't use the iPod much.
what should i do?
should i buy a new charger?

First stop would be the Apple store. If the problem is with your iPod it should be covered by Apple Care. If they find no fault with the device then you can pick up a charger while you're there (if you're made of money) or buy one from Amazon for a lot less.

first of all, it i'm assuming you mean 4th gen? There is no 5th gen yet.

could be your logic board is going bad as well (this happened on my first gen ipod touch)

I got dirt in the charging port of my iPod and it kept it from charging. It didn't look like a lot, but the little bit of dust in there made it not function. You might just try blowing it out or using a brush to clean the area.
