Such a device unfortunately is probably not physically possible with current technologies.

Apple Watch get you partly there with cellular models, but they're limited and not yet a phone replacement IMHO.

All that said, I personally have no particular issue with my 16pro's size.

Yes, it's a challenge to make an iPod touch sized iPhone but surely possible with present technology. Engineers love challenges, not orders to make some incremental advance on last year's model. Come on Apple, show some spirit!

It can't be asked enough, where would the industry be if it weren't for Samsung's world leading display innovation, and their never ending desire to keep tech exciting and move on from that boring slab form factor? All the while Apple looks to only maximize profits until other companies like Samsung, and all the consumer who pay for bleeding edge tech, do all the heavy lifting with making these new form factors mainstream. This why I'll never buy another iPhone. My money is on the companies who will actually bear the cost and risks of introducing new tech to move the industry forward. Nothing worse than coattail riders.
That’s not how it goes. It is known that Apple has a tendency to wait for tech to mature before implementing it into their products, something to do with quality and up to their standards. Currently all the latest flip and folding screens have a visible crease, Apple is trying to reduce or eliminate it more than what it is now. And as for releasing new tech to move the industry forward, Apple has done that with many of their products, let’s not get selective memory now.

Context was the iPod nano - and specifically I had the 6th gen nano in mind when writing my comments, which is 77% the size (volume) of the AW S11 46mm and 92% of the 42mm.

I’ve stated for years here that I have no interest in an iPhone fold….but a flip form factor is very appealing, big fan of the Motorola ones available.

Sony Ericssons were amazing. Their UI >> anyone else’s especially Motorola. What are you talking about?
They all were annoying to navigate, especially when surfing the web. They had great specs and all but all of that was close to useless. It only took of once the iPhone paved the way and after that nobody asked for SE, Nokia, Motorola, Siemens and the others

I agree with you that the iPhone was superior to all others preceding it. My Sony W980 flip was publically “incognito” in the palm of my hand, while I witnessed iPhones being identified and stolen, actually ripped from a person’s hand.

Quad fold or go home!

i think from reliability standpoint this is the stupidest idea ever, as the flip phone operation puts the most wear and tear on the screen if it has to bend: the device is simply too small to make any use of it when closed. i don't like the fold concept, but that at least has an external screen so you can operate it to a certain extent without needing to open it up.
but the flip folding iPhone is like a bet: can i break it within the warranty period?
Well, that's the challenge isn't it?
