On the Apple website, it says you need to wait 3-4 weeks to order an iPhone 17 Pro Max. You'd think these iPhone's are in huge demand, they are not.
1. I can literally get every color, every storage for the iPhone 17 Pro Max from multiple Apple Store. With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, this was impossible. I had to check everyday for 2 weeks in the Apple Store to get an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
2. There are no huge queue's outside of the Apple Store for people wanting an iPhone 17. With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, there were huge queue's outside the Apple Store every single day for many weeks.
3. It's not because of the iPhone Air, I can get every iPhone Air in every color and in every storage too from multiple Apple Stores.

So how come Apple says online you need to wait 3-4 weeks, but multiple Apple Stores have all the iPhone Air, iPhone Pro Max in every color and every storage available without needing to wait at all.

Apple is simply faking the demand. They can deliver these iPhone 17 Pro max to people who are waiting for 3-4 weeks but they want to create the impression for the people that pre-ordered that these phone's are more special than that they really are.

I don't believe Apple is lying. Shipping logistics is often different from availability in store (with stock already in hand or already ordered).

I think you are looking for a conspiracy that will garner debate for numerous pages.

Your logical fallacy doesn't provide a good foundation for your assertions.

What logical fallacy.

With the iPhone 15 launch, there wasn't any stock in any single Apple Store for up to a month. If you didn't order it online, you were screwed.

iPhone 17, people are not rushing to pick it up from multiple Apple Stores, as I can get every iPhone 17 that I want now. They are literally waiting there for someone to go get them, but they are still available. These things are not that in demand like the iPhone 15 was.

1. You can’t as a general rule. Perhaps in your location, but you can check in store stock online and that certainly isn’t the case.
2. The lines were there on launch day, and people are still checking updated stock daily to order. No one was queuing for weeks for the iPhone 15’s, it’s busy on launch day/ that weekend then it tails off.
3. Again, you can’t.

The new iPhones are massively in demand, more so it seems than in recent years.

Got any proof to back up your claims?

So you have surveillance teams watching in the Apple stores ?

All this likely shows is that they distributed the available stock differently this round, with a higher percentage allocated to retail stores over online compared to years past. If true, this could be for any number of reasons, such as a desire to increase traffic in the physical stores, or perhaps to fix the issue of no stock available in stores as you described. There’s probably no grand conspiracy.

By me:

The “similar models” offered are all pros, not Pro Maxes, and it’s one config available at three different stores (orange pro 512 at one, blue pro 512 at another, 1tb blue pro at a third)

FWIW, one of my local stores is a “Flagship” location.

I could see it. Not proof of course but tons of companies do this.

Example: Nike

Jordan 5 grape launch sold out instantly yet 30 mins after launch every size was back in stock. Fake sell out.

I def see Apple doing this sometimes. Prior years I saw phones sell out but available everywhere an hour later. Its a common tactic to fake demand and drive up sales.

I can't get an iPhone Pro/PM anywhere near my location, all multiple weeks out ...

Just another hyperbole conspiracy thread ...

they aren't faking demand. your sale shipped rn isn't as important right now as walk-ins.

what's happening is that they are prioritizing in-store stock because walk-in sales conversions from impulse buyers are extremely valuable to the bottom line.

people that order online would've always bought the phone anyway.

so they are over-shipping to stores to make sure that there is enough stock to convert low(er) probability buyers

I had to read the original post a few times, so you're comparing Apple online store with the local retail stores? They are pretty much two different channels.

What state are you in, and how many Apple stores do you have within 50-75 miles?

I have more than 2 dozen stores within 75 miles and there are almost no 17, Pro or Pro maxes in any color available for in-store pickup. The only inventory that has a good selection is the 17 Air.

Please give us the country you're in and a post/zipcode somewhere nearish you. Could be useful for those who aren't too far away and still want one!

All the stores in my current country are out of stock of every base and Pro Max model. My local store had one Pro and some Airs (two, I think) Friday morning but I'm sure they've gone now.

My local store had very few configurations of the Pro and Pro Max available today. I witnessed many people trying to buy them but getting turned away. The Air was readily available though.

This is a BS post judging from this person‘s local store experience. The Austin stores were mad crazy this weekend with People. Massive lines outside and the store was full with hundreds inside.

Depending on where you are, stores have inventory set aside for different things - store pickups, online orders, etc.

We have two stores is in a very large city. Friday on a whim I got online and was able to order a 17 Pro to be delivered to my office same day (courier… benefits of a big city). I was pretty surprised.

But the store it came from only had a few variants available that were gone later that day, and a friend of mine said they were 50+ out the door all weekend. I went by there Saturday evening and he was right. They had one line for iPhones and one for all other devices.

I do believe companies spin demand claims, but that spin is based on reality and not just fabricated.

If you Google it and if I remember it correctly, the year the iPhone 15 Pro Max came out apple was facing a lot of issues overseas with suppliers and they also started production late on the 15th Pro Max causing a issue of staying in stock

Apple has separate allotments of iPhone production for stores than for online sales. They don't generally re-allocate store iPhones to online distribution. So they may have misjudged online demand versus in-store demand, or maybe it actually makes some sense to prioritize in-store availability over online availability.

Also, the mere perception of being in high demand doesn't buy Apple anything if they don't actually sell the devices. Surely they are trying to sell as many units as possible either way.

While I know on the surface it sounds like "faking scarcity" sounds like something companies would do to drive up interest it isn't. The biggest sales come from the initial launch of a product and companies want to get as many of those products (that are already built) in the hands of consumers as possible while excitement of a new product launch is high. This guarantees those already made products are sold.

A company will never ever fake scarcity (unless it's someone only creating X number of things) because it's literally the worst financial decision they can make. People accuse companies of doing this all the time and it's simply not true. Nintendo just went through it with the Switch2 even though they absolutely flooded the market with units.

As for why you see a wait, it's because you're ordering from a source where the phones are coming straight from the manufacturer in China, the Apple stores already have units in stock, my stores don't show much in stock at all where as yours apparently do. Once that stock sells they're waiting for the next shipment as well.
